Waitlist question

Hi all,

New DVC member, so apologies if this is a silly question. But don't want to mess up and lose some points...

We're currently booked for a stay at our home resort in December (BWV, 1 bedroom, garden/pool view). I'd prefer a standard view room, but would have to waitlist for it.

If I have a current reservation on points for garden/pool view, and put myself on the waitlist for a standard, would the system cancel my existing reservation if the waitlist stay comes through and use the newly freed up points to "rebook"? Or would it pull from next year (I'd have to borrow from 2020 points) for the standard view room, then cancel my existing reservation?

I would guess the former, but don't want to run the risk.

There is a place on the waitlist request where you can check that you want the waitlist to replace a current reservation. This should prevent the pull of borrowing points. We got a BWV waitlist for a trip back in January and this is how it happened in our account.

Thanks ClosetDisMom. I couldn’t find that option on my wait list request (just went back in and checked) - will try calling MS in the morning to see if they can make that change / add a note for me!

Keep in mind that changing a waitlist request can put you at the end of the line as it can be considered a “new” waitlist. Mention it to member services just to make sure and then decide what is the best option for your family

Thank you both!! I tried it on my phone and the option came up, so I canceled my old waitlist and have made a new one with the replace option. Hopefully this is still early enough to get back in the queue at a reasonable spot Appreciate the advice!
