Waitlist question

This probably has been asked many times, however, I'm unable to find the link.

We are wait listed for BWV 2 bedroom standard view and the second wait list is for BWV 2 bedroom pool/garden view for December 8-15.

I think I read many years ago about "building" your week backwards a day at a time. Has anyone had any success doing that? And, further, if you do build it a day at a time, are the ressies linked so you don't have to change rooms virtually every night or two?

I'm so new at this wait list stuff. I have always gotten the week I want when I call DVC.

MS can link the reservations so that you do not have to change rooms.

Booking what you can find and then waitlisting for the rest can be tricky. First of all, remember that you are allowed only 2 active waitlists. Also, every time you book a night (or group of nights) and need to adjust the waitlist, you go to the bottom of the waitlist.

You also run the risk of having to move or not having a place to stay at all (unless you can afford to keep a back up reservation while you are waiting and hoping for a waitlist to work).

Remember that if the back up reservation costs more points than the waitlisted one and the waitlist comes through 30 days or less prior to arrival, the "extra" points that you get back will go in the holding account. You may want to use the waitlist option that expires at the 31 day mark, rather than the 7 day mark.

God luck!

You have a better chance of the preferred view than the standard view. You may even want to cancel the standard view and waitlist a different resort to give you better odds.

Thank you for your responses. It seems more difficult than it should be. I check online constantly. Let's hope it all works out.

I deal with Wait lists from 3 different timeshares and all of them are a pain in the neck in one way or another. This is also how II and RCI inherently work for all but RCI points where they do not have wait lists at all. I'd say that DVC's is the worst of all though, comparatively. I think I chronicled our WL progression for Maui previously where we moved from a 1 BR and separate studio (different views) to a 2 BR Gardenview, then Ocean side, then Ocean view, then Ocean Front. That was 4 different wait lists, one at a time. Fortunately with Marriott you can WL any view (and specify a view or views) as part of a single wait list.
