Waitlist question

I should know the answer to this question, but its been a tough week...

Let's say you already have ressies in '08 and have banked your remaining points for UY08, but you have a change in plans and would prefer to change dates. You find out the new dates you want are booked - can you waitlist for the new dates with the contingency that if your new dates come through, they will cancel the old ressie and move those points in to the new ressie? In this instance, we would still use the old ressie if the new ressie didn't come through, since some of the points need to be used.

When I waitlisted for BCV in April for a Sept stay I already had a reservation at AKV for the days I wanted. The CM specifically asked if I wanted to use the points from the AKV reservation if the new one came through so you should be able to specify that this is what you want to do. I would check back a day or so later and make sure it is set up the way you want it just to be sure. Our waitlist never did come through so haven't found out if it really would have worked out.

If you don't have any current year points left to make the reservation and it falls in your current UY, you'd have to borrow points to make that reservation. If you already banked the points, they cannot bring those points back to the current UY. I don't think they would automatically cancel the first reservation.

They will generally use the most advantageous points at the time of booking that is available. They can make mistakes so double check that they did so. They will not later automatically sub any points that would be to your advantage to do so, they may or may not even if you ask depending on several variables. If you have a complicated situation such as multiple home resorts, banked/borrowed points, etc; I'd specify exactly what you want them to do and follow up to make sure they did it the way you wanted.
