Is there anyway to see your waitlist online? I am new to this and am looking around the dvc member site and can't seem to come across it.

Thanks

No way to see where you are on the list. However, you can check your points on the DVC member site and see if they have taken points from your account and made your reservation.

I also have a waitlist question. What is the best way to book a DVC that is not your home resort. Would you book at the 11 month window at your home resort and then at the 7th month window call to switch or be put on a waitlist for the resort you really want? Or would you just wait until the 7th month window and book at the resort you really want to stay at.

Any advantages on way or the other? Could you let MS know if you book at the 11th month window at your home resort that this is what you want to do? Do they note it in your account and automatically begin the process at the 7th month window? :confused3

I would make ressies at my home resort and call to switch over at the 7 month mark. Then you know at least you have a room for your vactation. I would hate for everything to be booked at the 7 month mark and me to get shut out. I usually travel the 1st week in december so that would be the case. Good Luck!

My advice would depend on when you want to go, the unit type/size and the resorts involved.
For example, if you owned at BCV and wanted to stay at SSR and were looking for a studio reservation in October, I'd tell you to just wait for your 7 month window.

If you owned at SSR and wanted BCV for the same time, I'd tell you to call day by day at 7 months for the BCV studio. If you couldn't get in, I tell you to make the back up reservation at SSR at that time. (There are also waitlist options. My advice would depend on your tolerance for risk and number of available points & banking deadline).

If you wanted to stay Christmas week, I 'd tell you to make the reservation at SSR at 11 months to be sure you had a place to stay (one call) and then make the reservation at the BCV at 7 months. I'd advise day by day for BCV unless you didn't have enough points to hold the SSR reservation until the BCV reservation came through. If you didn't have enough points to hold the back up, I'd tell you to decide between the risk of moving back and forth and the risk of not getting what you wanted at the BCV.

Bottom line: It depends!

No, sorry. No way to automatically start the reservation process at 7 months. You have to make the calls.

With so many members, getting into a non home resort at 7 months can be a challenge. For popular times, many are disappointed. It's why we recommend you buy where you want to stay the most and take advantage of your home resort booking window.

Tinkerdreams - if you post some specifics, I'm sure you'll get some specific advice for your situation.

Thanks CarolMN,

My home resort is SSR and we would like to stay at BWV. The timeframe is first 2 weeks of May (2009) - I know, a bit obsessed :teeth: - My kids would love to stay there but its the first time all of us will be able to sync our schedules together. Thanks for you help!! :upsidedow

May is one of the easier months to book at 7 months. If you would be happy with a Preferred View - Pool/Garden unit, you should be able to get into the BWV during the first two weeks of May at the 7 month mark. IMHO, you don't need to make a back up reservation at SSR at 11 months (it's large relative to the others and as mentioned, May isn't on the list of "popular" times.

My advice is to call MS and book the first night of your vacation as soon as the 7 month window opens. Ask the CM how availability looks for the rest of your stay. If the CM says it's wide open, you can just make one more call. If availability is looking limited, then continue the day by day booking.

Day by day booking is becoming more and more necessary at 7 months if you want one of the smaller WDW DVC resorts. That's because there are so many new members who also want to stay at the smaller resorts and many of them are willing and able to do it. That said, I don't think we're there yet for May at the BWV if you are OK with a PV -Pool/Garden accommodations.
