I hvae also read that waitlists can no longer be day by day and must be for the entire vacation????

How does that work if you only have a couple of days missing especially if you are planning on a longer stay such as 14 nights?

If I was only missing a night or two out of 14 would I have to waitlist the entire 14 nights??? :confused3

No - MS would reserve the available dates for you and put you on the waitlist for the others, adding them as they became available. In this situation you would have multiple reservations (you could not reserve them all under one reservation) - which would eventually all be linked together to allow you stay in the same villa the entire trip.

In the past, if you wanted 14 days - and none were available with the initial call - you could either waitlist for the entire reservation or use a day-by-day waitlist. With the "entire stay" list, you would get it only if all 14 days became available at once. With the "day-by-day" you'd automatically get each separate day as it became available. With "day-by-day" it's possible that you could still end up with some missing days in the middle - but that was the risk you took. With "entire stay", it's possible that the entire 14 days would never become available all at once.

MS seemed to compound the waitlist by still allowing phone requests to be filled even when a waitlist already existed. Hopefully they have found a way to ensure that the waitlist gets first opportunity for any dates that become available by cancellation.

In your situation, I'd reserve as many days as are readily available and use the waitlist to fill in any gaps. The waitlist does work - especially for Home Resort reservations made more than 7 months ahead, but also for reservations within 7 months.

Good luck! :)

For our December trip we got 7 out of the 11 nights and waitlisted for the others, so you are saying I can still do this? What would happen if one night failed to come through would they allow me to keep the days I had?

Yes - you already have reservations for 7 nights. If no other dates open up, you will still have those 7. If more availability is found, they will just add to the other reservation(s) until you have all 11 days.

Enjoy! :)

I know our Decemebr trip is fine as it is booked under the old policy, just thinking about the new policy which is no day by day waitlisting. So if I was able say next eyar to book Sunday night, Monday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night, Saturday night but was missing Tuesday and Friday I could have the other nights booked and guarenteed even if the other two nights didn't come through by the time the waitlist ended?

Yes - you'd have three reservations, each with a unique confirmation number and you'd need to move out for the unavailable days, but there is no real change in the ability to make reservations just as you have in the past. In this case, the waitlist would need to add a day to each of two different exsiting reservations - which would still be linked together in the end.

Enjoy! :)

Upon reading the main thread about change in policy for booking, I get the impression if one day is not available I cannot book the remaining nights, instead all the nights have to be waitlisted????????:confused3 :confused3

What Doc suggests seems logical but I just hope that MS will actually do that. Will they actually let me reserve consecutive days in separate blocks?
