Other guests can cancel without a penalty until 30 days out. Once they hit 30 days, their points go into holding.

I have read here many times of people getting there waitlist ,as long as people can cancel without penalty up to 30 days ,I would think theres still a good chance-
I just read a post a few minutes ago about a forgotten waitlist i believe it was rewarded only 18 days out -
