I am currently doing some pre planning. OCD'ing over first ressie....Going on which waitlist is a waist of time, and which has a possability. I just closed on BCV and VWL. Awaiting the point deposit into my account.
Want to get a week after Thanksgiving ressie. Here is the rank of preferred place to stay.
1. VWL
2. BCV
3. BWV
4. OKW
I figure OKW is the safest can get back up ressie just inside 7 mo. window. Of the other 3 which waitlist is more likely to come through for a 1br. I understand anything is possible but I need to figure out wich is more likely than the other since I don't have points to waitlist everywhere.
Please give me the benefit of you experiences as which waitlist to go on. Please keep the giggeling to a minimum.:)
Thanks,:thumbsup2
Chris

Use the waitlist. Most of my waitlists have come through. I am currently waitlisted for 1 night in May that has not come through. You never know unless you try! Good Luck! I do not think that you need extra points to waitlist them all. For example I was on the waitlist for BCV and OKW and they both came through on the same day so I got to choose. I am currently on the waitlist for BCV and VWL for May. Good Luck!!

VWL seems to be the most popular DVC around Christmastime. There's possibly already a waitlist for there.

For our Dec. 06 trip (1st week) we went on the waitlist at 7 months out exactly to the date for a 1BR at VWL. I made the mistake of not doing day-to-day waitlist, opted for the weekly. Our waitlist didn't come through so we ended up staying at BCV (I had made a ressie there at 11 mos). So if VWL is your first choice, make a reservation where you can then waitlist for day to day (a day here, a day there, then link them). Don't depend on a weekly waitlist to come through.:)

I think you'd have the best chance for a BWV Pool/Garden PV. Ther are more of them than there are at either of the other two smaller DVC resorts.

That said, no harm in waitlisting for all 3 and taking whichever one comes through first.

Keep reminding yourself that you are going to have many years to enjoy your DVC membership - and this first trip is only "tough" because you didn't own in time to ue the 11 month window.

Now that I think of it - I'd try to stay at the BWV or OKW. You will have plenty of time to try out your two new homes!

Enjoy the trip - you picked a great time to go!

You are 100% right. :santa:
On a waitlist, when are your points accounted for. I still need to get this straight in my brain. Just trying to get a clue....
Thanks

If you do an automatic waitlist, they will be taken out as soon as it comes through. I think if you can get on the VWL one right away, it should work out. It's a VERY popular time for that resort, but you are getting on the list early.

I'd say apart from OKW, you're most liekly to get BWV, then BCV, VWL being the hardest.

Thabk you for the responses. I will be calling Monday to see if points have been deposited.
Can you get on a waitlist for somewhere you don't own outside the 7 mo window? Or is that a part of being an owner of that resort you can waitlist before non resort resort owners?

Any other experiences out there?
Thanks
Chris

You can't waitlist for a non-home resort until 7 months out. Otherwise everyone would do it.

We did waitlist once for a two bedroom at SSR (we had a one bedroom and wanted more room) and it never came through. We were on the waitlist for about five months.

Our waitlists have always come through, but we've always waitlisted early.
We got VWL for New Years off the waitlitst last year.

If you decided to waitlist at more than one resort I would not go with an automatic confirmation. You will have 24 hours to decide if you want the day or dates they come up with. If you do automatic confirmation you could end up with several rooms for the same days at different resorts and no rooms for other days. Depending on how many days you plan to be there you may also find it works to split the stay between two of them. Good luck - I have only had one waitlist not come through since 1997 and that was in fact for the very time frame you are looking for and it was for VWL but then I did not get on the waitlist until about 5 months out so you should be in better shape. We had a backup at OKW so while disappointing to some it was okay as we had a room. I also got a waitlist for last NYE within a couple of weeks of going so anything can happen.

I thought that was part of the process of getting what you wanted? What other way of waitlisting would you refer to?
Thanks

You can have them call you when you have a match. They'll call you and then you have 24 hours to return their call and either accept or decline the waitlist. Automatic can be set up for your #1 choice and then have the others as a call waitlist that way if you get your #1 choice it won't be bumped out when one of the others comes in.
Only downside to the call one - twice I have had MS say that they called me when they didn't. One time I did not get my waitlist for the trip, but the other time I was put back on the waitlist and got my waitlist about a month before my stay.

:tinker: Good Luck!

I would like above poster said....
put WLV on automatic waitlist....cause thats where you really
want to be...

Then in order of preference....put the others on a call back
waitlist....

I just did this....I booked a studio for a week at SSR
from 5-22 to 5-29...
then I decided I wanted a 1BR...
memorial day wasn't available....so i figured I would keep the
studio for the last few days...
I waitlisted for the 1BR...so I wouldnt have to change rooms..
I didnt do it automatic...cause I kinda liked the idea of checking
out both accomodations...

1 week later they called me and left a message saying I have
24hrs notice to call back....my 1br is available...
Called back next day...and took the 1BR......
Figured I would live like KING....1st DVC visit:goodvibes

You do not need enough points for all three choices....
just the 1st one you make ressie for....
If a waitlist comes through....that costs more points...
they will then ask you if you want to borrow points to cover it...

Our experience with the WL has been varied, but overall postive. We have done the day by day for VWL in Nov/Dec with very good luck. I'm in the process of doing that right now for Thanksgiving week. The main thing is to be satisfied with where you DO get (in our case, SSR) and then it's a bonus to get your waitlist.

We had a WL shocker yesterday. We were unable to get BCV for the first two nights of our vacation so we booked SSR and WL for BCV, as we have the next seven nights at BCV. We went on the automatic WL up to 7 days before we leave. Since we actually leave a week from today, we had given up (despite looking online pretty much everyday "just in case"). Well...yesterday we looked one last time and there it was! So the WL even works at the last minute.

I highly recommend the automatic up to 7 days if it works with your strategy. :thumbsup2

Back in Jan, after my 11 month window had passed, I booked my Dec trip....6-10 at BWV, preferred view. No boardwalk view, so I waitlisted for that.
Well, last week I decided to add a few days to my stay...of course there was nothing open at BW so I waitlisted for anything!!! I figured that I would be calling at my 7 mo window to book anyplace at all!! Just got a call from MS telling me they had a standard view for me for the two extra nights!!!!!
So....the waitlist has come through, yet again, for me. Just wanted to give those of you waiting a glimmer of hope.

We did an add-on last month at VWL and we are waitlisted for the first week in Dec (starting Dec 2) for a studio.
