Just throwing this out there--We are new members, so maybe everyone else knows this, but....if you have dining booked and your waitlist comes through, they cancel your dining plan! We had no clue until my brother-in-law went to eat at the castle and was told that he had to pay for the meal. After an hour long phone call with DVC (while I missed my Hoop Dee Do meal) I was told that anytime a waitlist comes through they cancel the dining!! This would have been good to know before hand! They did add the dining plan that night, and credit back the dinner amount, but it was beyond frustrating!!! I came home and looked back at the email from when the waitlist went through, and it says nothing about the dining being cancelled.

Not just dining though! *Anything* associated with the reservation ie magical express is cancelled as well without official mention or notice.

DDP and DME are tied to the room reservation. If the reservation gets canceled, so does the attached extras.

A couple of years ago we had made a AKV Concierge reservation and booked the Sunrise safari which requires that you to be staying at AKL/AKV concierge in order to be able to book. However, we cancelled it and rebooked at a different resort. I assumed that would cancel the safari reservation. But no.

The day before the safari concierge called me about something relating to the safari. When I explained that we weren't staying concierge and had thought it would cancel when we cancelled our stay there he told me it wouldn't and that if we hadn't shown up they would have charged us. Even though we hadn't qualified to go on it for a few months. :confused3

So basically you never can be quite certain what will happen and need to verify everything if you change a room reservation.

That's actually good. The dining plan is an awful thing.

So, I guess they credited your form of payment for the cancelled dining plan at the time the WL came through?

I just combined two reservations ( found an extra day) and made very sure my room requests followed the reservation-- the ms rep read them to me so i am sure, but i was kind of worried our adrs and/or fp+ selections would disappear. Just always double check, i guess!

Yes, they credited my brother-in-laws card, but gave no notification. When we got home, they checked their December statement, and a credit was there!

Those reservations should be safe. Ours were all intact! Have fun!

To me they should transfer your existing "stuff" over when the waitlist comes through. I couldn't make the MS rep understand that I didn't cancel anything! :) Oh well, lesson learned. We are about to book for the first week of December for next year, and will waitlist VGF at 7 mos. if not available (which I'm sure it won't be), but I'll wait and add the dining plan right before we go!

I was just setting up a waitlist and this is on the website when you do so:

"(Note: If the existing booking you wish to replace includes a Disney Dining Plan and is for the same length-of-stay, the dining plan will be applied to your new accommodation. If the existing booking is for a shorter length-of-stay, you can add a dining plan for the additional nights by visiting Upcoming Vacations in the Vacation Center. If the existing booking is for a longer length-of-stay, a refund for the price difference will be applied to your credit card.)"

So it's not too strange it was a surprise to you that it was cancelled instead.
