Waitlist/check in question

Hi-My first trip as a member is coming up in a few days. We have been on the waitlist for a savannah view studio at AKV. If the waitlist doesn't come through-can I ask at check in? If there is a room available-will I be able to use my points for it?
I am sure this has been answered before, but I couldn't find the information.

You can ask but the Front Desk isn't suppose to change you from one room category to the other. A word of caution, anytime the Front Desk has touched our points, they have screwed them up and it took several calls and several days for MS to correct our account.

My preference is to call MS the day of check in. If there appears to be something available they will check with the resort and make the change if it's possible.

You probably already know this but your waitlist ends 7 days from check-in so starting 7 days out you need to call MS every day if you still want to try for that room. Good luck!

I did not know that! I am a DVC newbie, so I really appreciate it when people answer my questions (as silly as they may seem!).
