Waitlist Availability at Copper Creek

We have a trip booked for this August-our first points trips as we are new DVC members. Our trip is currently booked for August 16 to 22. However, we just found out Moonlight Magic date at Epcot has been changed to August 15. We were planning on having the first 4 nights of our trip in a 2br (thurs, fri, sat, sun) with extended family that is planning on coming for the weekend and then switch to a studio for the remaining 2 nights of our trip. Because the dates for Moonlight Magic changed, we want to be able to go to that on August 15. We were planning on moving our dates in a studio to August 14 and 15 and then switching to our 2 br afterwards. Problem is, there is no availability at Copper Creek. If we waitlist a studio for those dates, what are the chances it will come through?

We were also thinking about staying in a studio at another resort, but we already bought our otu points at the 7 month mark to get a 2 br, as we weren't originally planning on going to Moonlight Magic. We really don't want to have to borrow our points from next year to get a studio that's more points at a different resort. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about this dilemma?

Thanks in advance!

If you don't want to stay at another resort, book a cash reservation through MS for the dates you want. It will qualify you for MM (verify that with MS) and if your waitlist comes through, you can cancel the cash reservation. Be sure to ask MS for the cancellation deadline for the cash reservation.

To be honest, we attended the last mm event at Epcot and we won't be back. Not enough benefit compared to the MK event.

Depending on what you believe about booking, there may be as few as 13 studios bookable on points right now (10 from lock-off 2BRs, 3 dedicated) per the initial declaration. There is some debate about whether a declaration just represents points to be sold, or if that also maps to bookable units; since we cannot see total unit availability in RAT, it is a mystery.

If you are in the "declared=bookable" camp, studio waitlists might be hard unless they declare another set of units between now and August. Which should happen. They've been selling 60-70k points/month, so they may be declaring more by then if that keeps up. 1,021,430 points of the resort are declared, and by end of December, a total of 513,225 points had been sold at CCV. So they would be declaring another group sometime between April-June depending on how much sales have increased now that Poly is gone and prices went up everywhere else and they're only pushing CCV.

There are a lot of undeclared dedicated studios - there are 42 total, and only 3 declared. So a declaration that includes a bunch could push some waitlist movement.

Did you call or book on line? We are new DVC members, and my agent "told" me that to be sure and call in for your first WELCOME HOME visit. They said there are points set aside to help first timers get in their first visit. May or may not be true...but worth a try.

I agree, definitely call MS and have them help you book the studio dates. As long as there is availability they can pull from cash and you are a new direct buyer, they will assist you with a one-time "welcome home" booking for a stay otherwise unavailable on points. We did this using our CCV points for a stay this May - in December they helped us book 5 nights at the Poly in a standard studio which was not available to book on points but did have cash availability. Good luck!

Thank you guys so much for your responses! We ended up switching our reservation to AKL savannah view and buying extra otu points. I have wanted to stay in a savannah view room for awhile now and we were planning on booking a trip with a savannah view studio for this May, but instead booked that a SSR and did a split stay for our first points trip.
