Waitlist and borrowed points - only if the waitlist comes thru?

I've searched for this question, but can't find an answer. I think I know, but would like someone to confirm:

If I put in a waitlist request with borrowed points, and the waitlist does not come thru, the points are safe in the UY, correct?

If I put in a waitlist request and I cancel prior to the waitlist coming thru, the same, points are safe?

Correct. Points are not actually used (in this case borrowed) until waitlist fills. Keep checking, cause I've filled my own WL a time or two
