I am renting out some DVC points for a family in October. Food and Wine is going to be going on. Oct 2nd through 9th has every DVC resort booked solid.

They originally wanted BCV, but there was no availability there when I booked it back in March. That week was available at the Boardwalk, so they wanted that, just to get something, and I waitlisted the week at the Beach Club, where we waited, and waited and waited.....

Call me Einstein, but it was just a couple of weeks ago that I realized that they may have a better chance at getting the week one night at a time, as opposed to waiting for all the dates to come in at once. so, I started waitlisting one night at a time, starting backwards...she was willing to move from BWV mid week if she had to.

Well, in 2 weeks time, 4 nights have come in for BCV. I could continue adding the next night to waitlist until she has the full week, but now she is fine with a split week. She wants to spend the 1st part of the week at BWV and the 2nd half at the BC.

I just think of all that time we waited and got nothing! Once we decided to do it one night at a time, it seems like everyday a night became available. 2 nights opened up yesterday!

So, if you are waiting for a full week to come in, try waitlisting one night at a time. If you don't mind moving, in case the whole week does not come in.

That strategy does carry risk.

As you mentioned, it's very possible that the guest will end up moving in the middle. Some are OK with that, some are not. Good for you for figuring out how to do this so that the most the guest would have to move is once.

Every time you change the waitlist, you go to the bottom of the list. You do not know for sure (nor will you ever know) if the original waitlist would have worked.

Also, every time a CM touches a reservation, there is a possibility for a mistake. If a mistake happens, it's possible that DVC won't be able to fix it. They won't kick someone else out to make things right for you. This is especially true for the very popular BCV & BWV resorts during Food & Wine Festival time.

Your renter is lucky that you were willing to make the extra calls and manage the process. I think you are an exception. Not very many owners would be willing to do all of that (IMO). Glad it all worked out for you and sure hope your renter appreciates your efforts.

That is great that you were able to do that for the renter. I have been waitlisted for 1 night December 11th at BCV since the 7 month mark and nothing yet. I was hoping that it would come through quickly being as it is 1 night, and it is a weekend stay, but no such luck yet.

Wishing for some pixie dust.
