waiting lists

Just curious...has anyone ever been put on a wait list for one of their requested nights and NOT gotten it. All of the DVC members that I know (ok, just my parents, my friend, and I), have always had our date requests approved within a few weeks, but I just didn't know if that was normal or if we were just lucky. It's always only been for one night out of a long stay.

Here's my dilemma...I just called for a last minute reservation and they don't have one of the five nights available. The trip is only a few weeks away so I don't know if I should get on a wait list for that night?? MS said they have "cash reservation" rooms available for that night, but I'd prefer to use points (that's a whole other thread...if there's rooms available...). MS said that sometimes they release the cash rooms into the points as it gets closer, but can't guarantee anything. But I don't know how much closer we can get. I'd hate to count on that and then be without a room for a night

In the past, I always thought MS and DVC would really try to accomodate it's members and maybe I got off the wait list before by them releasing "cash" points. But lately, every other time I've called MS, I've thought they were kind of short and rude- not the Disney service we'd been used to since we joined in 1998. So point is- I'm leary about booking and counting on that wait list to go through since I'm not confident they are still so accomodating.

What do you think and again, have your wait list requests gone though?

Many like you have proclaimed success. All such persons must have been born with a lucky charm. I have made four attempts at the waitlist over the years and lost each time.
