Waiting List is Bogus?

FYI, today I got one of the two nights I needed by stalking. I called MS to update my waitlist request to the one night instead of two. She told me that if she modifies it, I will go to the bottom of the waitlist. I always assumed MS could modify a waitlist without dropping you to the bottom of the list again.

No, the can’t. But, because you are changing it to one night, it doesn’t really matter where you are because you want only one night which means you have a better chance anyway.

She had me keep the 2 night waitlist with a note to not double book the one night. I thought changing the waitlist to one night was the way to go though, is that what you would do?

Yes, I would change it. The thing is that they don’t hold nights for waitlist so where you are only matters against people wanting the same thing.

If that night comes through, the system is not going to recognize the note and just see it as two nights. The note only helps if both nights open up.

Once you have one night, then you only compete against others wanting that same exact night.

Two single day waitlists filled three days apart this week for an upcoming May trip. Which caught me by surprise given that I'd been relentlessly stalking the days and yet they slipped past me. Very pleased with the Waitlist, only complaint is that it would be most helpful if the Waitlist gave an indicator of being filled. It's possible that I had been stalking for days needlessly.

How long do you think it takes from the time a waitlist matches until a CM processes it? Is it a matter of hours or days?

I think it can be days sometimes but I think they try to process as fast as they can..

I have had some fill within 24 hours of placing it.

So we had a Poly request on a wait list for March. We stalked the boards and found a Poly 2 night out of the 3 we were looking for 2 weeks ago. Changed our wait list request to 1 night (the other) and it came through our request 2 days later. Then we contacted MS to connect the 2 reservations, they said up to 5 to 7 days to see if possible (I guess Poly CM's do that). But while I had them on chat, I asked what works better stalking vs wait request. I was told that if the request matches, it is put on hold by the system until MS can confirm it. I would think it has to match perfectly but they said that wait listing is better than stalking because of the hold put on the listing. They implied that a hold is not available to book through the system. Dont know if its all true but that is what we were told via chat. Also, the 5 to 7 days was actually 1 day for it to be approved to connect the 2, it was connected :)

In our experience the WL works been when done 1 or 2 days at a time. The WL works very successfully using this method. When all the days are booked I send a Contact Us email to merge the days. I do search and if I find a date available, I'll reserve it and cancel the WL. I've never had any success WL more than 2 days at once. I've also never had any success exclusively stalking the availability either. It's usually all 1 day WL or a combination of grabbing what's available and WL-ing around the existing reservation 1 day at a time.
