Waiting in lines- strategies with autistic toddler

This won't work for all kids on the spectrum, but it was a lifesaver for us. My wife and I each kept a small mini m&m container in our fanny packs filled with runts or some other small hard candy. We used it when needed (even where eating was not allowed) and it helped immensely.

This worked for us. We brought milk duds (which melt much quicker than we thought they would in December), air heads, and suckers. Small toys also worked well. We found out that the glowing light cubes served in several of the mixed drinks in MGM held her attention along with the spinning Mickey toys sold in the parks.

But I do feel like I need to give credit where it is due. Because I knew waiting would be an issue for us, I asked her therapists to assist me in getting her ready. They started a "wait" program which gradually increased her wait time tolerance. I believe it was the essential element (but the candy and toys certainly didn't hurt)
