I'm new at this and need some good advice. We really want DVC at the Contemporary when/if it becomes available. How can I get the best deal? Be there at the very begining or wait for a sale or wait even longer for a resale?:confused3

Considering it is not annonced the question may be moot.

For me for the best deal I waited for the Family/Friend referral time. That saved me $15 per point. I don't know about new resorts though. If they are popular enough they might be sold out before the friends/family referral time comes up.

1) Buy a bunch of "cheap" OKW points now.

2) Enjoy those points while waiting for VCR (CRV?) to be built - if it ever does.

3) When VCR open, use your OKW points to stay there. LYAO at people paying 50% MORE for VCR points to stat at the same resort.

4) If it turns out you can't get into VCR when you want at the 7-month window with your OWK points, then and only then sell your points and buy into VCR.

Waiting for the Contemporary Resort, you will have a long wait.

some of us still believe in CRV:cool2:

buy a small resale at a resort you'd be happy to stay @ in the future.

enjoy it until the CRV is announced, then add-on...

selling the 1st purchase if the mood strikes you.

good luck

First thing, welcome to the DIS.

Second, line forms over to the right next to the Eagle Pines Resort line. Bring comfy shoes, it may be a while.

Hey Folks: It's being reported on several other web sites this morning that the South Florida Water Management District recently approved a permit for the construction of "Disney's Contemporary Suites Vacation Club Resort." The permit supposedly includes diagrams of the C-shaped building whose images leaked out on the net several months ago.

Anyone have any further info?

Best deals usually come before the resort opens, unless sales dry up before selling out (not likely). We have still not seen a better deal for SSR than we got before it opened. You can always hold out for someone that's unhappy and try resale but if price is good DVC will probably ROFR it. IMO grab it as soon as it becomes available, if you are not in an old age home by then.

................and some of us still believe in the Tag Fairy...............:rolleyes1

(I'm hoping we're all right.:teeth:)

I'm hoping the same thing although if it becomes a reality, I may have to use a crowbar and some TNT to pry DH out of the spacious 2BR digs he has become used to at OKW.

There's a link over on the Rumors board. 16 story building. C-shaped, with the opening to Bay Lake (as in the drawings found earlier on the architects' website). Looks like the pool has a spiral slide, and a Mickey-shaped hot tub.

Durning our last trip to WDW (early Dec '06), a friend and I were playing the EP golf course. The couple that they put with us to make a 4 some told us that the starter said there were rumors that the EP golf course was going to be taken out to put in a DVC EPR. There were a couple of people out surveying the golf course that day with maps and blue prints. The person playing with us tried to get information from these people, but he was told that they could not discuss anything. I would welcome an EPR but if it happens, I would hope that it goes back to the original announced plans of a few years ago that would put it into the golf course not instead of the golf course. EP is to pretty to plow under.

What's the estimated completion of the Villas at the Animal Kingdom Resort? How many rooms? Will it be years, if they sell like other resorts?

Tina :)

As stated above, here is the link. North side of the Contemporary. Application dated 11/6/2006.

I just returned on 1/25 and spoke to numerous CM's regarding DVC at the Contemporary. Every CM I spoke too said it was happening and when I responded that some people (on this forum) said it wasn't, they seemed really surprised and assured me that it was a go.

I also took a good look at the North Wing. It's obviously being prepared for demolition.

I believe DVC at the Contemporary will happen in the near future. It's going to take some time to demolish the North Wing and build a 15 story building. I'm sure by the time it's completed both Saratoga Springs and AKV will be just about sold out.

Best deal thru DVC will probably be as early as possible. You'll get the most years for the least price.

Resale contracts will probably run $7-10 less than DVC's price, but it will take a few months before they start hitting the market in any sort of volume.

Animal Kingdom Villas won't be complete until 2009. If the structure proposed for the CR is to actually house DVC rooms, I think we're looking at 2010 as an opening date.

In another month the base price will be up to $104 per point. Figure on price increases of $3 every 9-10 months. By the time the CR opens we'll probably be in the $115-120 neighborhood.

Warms my heart to know I bought at $79 a few years ago!! :goodvibes

None of us here are ever going to agree on the validity of the CRV rumor until it actually happens. I have to agree with most, that given that the AKV is already announced and will be a large resort, you can expect it to be MANY years (maybe as many as 10) before or if anything will be come of CRV. I would never wait for that long to buy into DVC. We bought 10 years ago, and our only regret was not buying 5 years sooner! You will have that same regret if you wait.

As an earlier poster stated, buying somewhere like OKW now and expecting to trade into CRV SHOULD it happen, is the best tactic. It locks you into the current prices, which could double in the next 10 years, like they did in the last 10!

Did you read the link posted above containing the application to the Water Department dated 11/6/2006 for Contemporary Resort Villas by Disney Vacation Club? I don't think it's rumor any more, it just hasn't been officially announced yet. Why can't DVC be building 2 resorts at the same time? Or maybe they are expecting AKV to sell quickly, who knows.
