Okay so I closed on my DVC on 10/2 and am still waiting for the packet in the mail with my # and activation code. I have been told I was loaded into the system and it should be on its way. I think at this point I should be able to get something booked via member services. This whole process has been way too long, I wish Disney had a complaint line for me to give this process an earful. Don't get me wrong, can't wait to be a member (which I suppose I already am), but as a member I want Disney to speed up how they do this for future members, in this day and age, with all this technology, it is the most absurdly slow process I've been through in a long time.... Sorry my only place to vent.

I am right there with you. I need to book on Nov. 2 for the 7 month window and it will likely be a week later. We closed on Monday. Also I would like to use my discounts on our trip next week but that likely will not happen.

I can appreciate your frustration. I would have thought you would have received your number by now. We closed the same day as you and appeared on OCC website the following day. My husband was able to get our member number over the phone by selecting option 2 member administration on Oct 14. We then received our official letter with the member number on Oct 16; it was dated Oct 11. I would definitely try calling again. Did they tell you the date the member number was mailed on? That's the only info I expected to get when we called, but we must have lucked out as she didn't even hesitate to give us our number. We have points expiring at the end of November so I don't know if this was a factor. Good luck, I hope you get your number really soon.

Call MS, give them your SSN and see if they will help.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, Disney deliberately makes resale buyers wait to become members and they have placed restrictions on what you can use your points on.
They do this on purpose so bringing it to their attention will get you no where.

You can go to the occ website and plug in your info. That will give you when it was recorded. It took us almost 3 weeks to receive our member # in the mail after the deed was recorded. I wouldn't be surprised if you get your long awaited member number in the next day or 2!

I respect your opinion, Bill, but I don't quite see it that way. If Disney deliberately made resale buyers wait for membership numbers strictly to encourage direct sales, then this would be noted by the salespeople and in the marketing information. ("Please note that if you buy resale, we will deliberately make you wait for your membership numbers just to piss you off and regret that you bought resale. For that reason, you should pay upwards of 50% more to buy direct.")

The reality, I believe, is that they have just one or two people in the DVC staff to enter in all new members in the system. I have no doubt that their first priority is direct purchases, and sometimes there is a backlog of entries. Of course we would love for them to add more personnel to this department. However, this staff increase would, in all probability, add to each and every member's annual fees. It's a catch-22.

Yes, the so-called restrictions were definitely put in place to encourage direct sales, and they use that point in sales presentations and material. However, even many direct members find that taking the extra step of renting their points for those restricted options makes much more financial sense than using points.

Sorry I don't agree, Disney only does ROFR one day per week unless things have changed and they shoot for a 30 day delay. The inputting of contracts, loading points, mailing log in info, mailing member ID's could be changed where a new member could get their access earlier but they added delays saying that it is due to security issues. All they would have to do is require security specific info to give the access over the phone.

But many of us do get our info a bit early on the phone by calling member accounting. I know I did, and they were very helpful and even volunteered my log-in info and told me I would need that to make reservations. I then received the info in the mail around 10 days later. I would imagine that the 30 day ROFR is decided by some sort of model which is constantly changing. I very much doubt that the sales team that looks at this information makes these types of decisions more than once or twice a month. I've been recently hearing of people being waived closer to 20 days than to 30. Who knows for sure? I certainly don't. However, ROFRs are frequently seen in real estate transactions.

Heck, over on the current ROFR thread, recent timelines for waiving ROFR are floating around the 10-day mark. With as ridiculous as the wait times were starting to get over this summer, it seems like the pendulum is now swinging back the other direction for resales (ears crossed for those still waiting).

what is the number I should call to check on my membership number? I am going to try in vain right before leaving for our trip at the end of next week.

Finally done! Booked my first trip this morning!

After my wife called Member Accounting last week and was told that our member letter had just been mailed out, I decided to give them another call today since we have not received the letter yet. I called MA (Option 3 then Option 4) and spoke with a very helpful CM. After relaying the details of my wife's call last week and explaining that we're trying to buy APs for our Turkey Day trip, the CM verified all my info and gave me my member number. She then transferred me to MS, where I was given my Club ID # and my one-time activation code to set up my online DVC account.

We are officially official DVC members now!

Maybe I will try again today or tomorrow. I called yesterday and they refused to give me my member number since they could not verify who I was. They said my packet had been mailed on Tuesday. I know I am in the system though. I will try harder as my 7 month window open on Monday and I need to make a reservation for two rooms.

Here is the list of buyers who *should* (statistically speaking) receive their member numbers within the next week (if they haven't already):

Hopefully soon. I'm hoping to get the DVC discount on APs for our Christmas trip.

Leaving tomorrow for Jersey Week. I hope to come back to some good mail when I get home.
