I recently contacted Memolink regarding a prize that I've been waiting for since July, 2003. Here's the email I got.

DearXXXX,

We are truly sorry that you have not yet received your prize. After three
years of struggling with late prizes, we are still in the same position.
You have likely heard more than one reason from Memolink as to why your
prizes have not been delivered. Although we have had some problems with
our fulfillment system and old technology, the underlying problem has still
not changed. We are still recovering from the "Dot Com" fall out dating
back three years. Memolink is a small company of less then 20 people, and
although we have tried many different ideas, and several new marketing
strategies, it is a constant struggle to purchase $1.5 million dollars
worth of prizes for which we were never paid by advertisers. The good news
is, we have slowly knocked out $1 million of that prize debt in the last
two years, and those prizes have been shipped! The bad news is, we still
have quite a bit more to cover before we are completely caught up, which we
feel will be sometime in the next 12 months.

As many of you are aware, Memolink, unlike many of its competitors, still
honor the points you earn, even when we're not paid by our advertisers.
Other point programs are known to reverse the points you've earned when
they're not paid by advertisers. We've always felt that our policy was a
better approach as we didn't want to penalize our members for something
they had no control over. Recently, the economic climate for Internet
companies has improved. The resurgence in our economy, the positive trend
in online commerce and the failing of less stable rewards programs (our
competitors) are all positive signs for Memolink.

We do keep up with the buzz on the message boards. The most common
statement made by Memolink members is they just want us to be honest about
their prize orders. Frankly, we want to be honest. We will no longer put
a soft-cushion on our excuse, or give you a date that your prize will
arrive. The truth is, we aren't sure. We have many loyal members that
come to our site each day to complete offers worth many points. These
members keep us in business and will be rewarded - they will receive their
prizes. We also have many loyal members that come to our site each day and
participate in only "free point offers" that don't bring in revenue. We
are happy to provide these free offers, but this has caused an unforeseen
financial strain that may need to be corrected if prizes aren't caught up
soon.

What's our solution? We have created a new prize delivery arrangement that
will allow us to take many things into consideration before shipping the
prize to a member. This arrangement is designed to deliver prizes first to
candidates that will come back and earn us the most revenue, enabling us to
ship ALL prizes quicker.
We would like to say again, all the prizes that
have been ordered will be delivered, but we will not be able to give you a
date at this time. After testing this delivery method, we hope to better
predict when your prize will arrive, but we won't be able to do so until we
see how well it works. Suffice it to say, if you complete revenue
generating offers on Memolink (shopping, credit cards, clubs, etc.), both
old and new prize orders will be given some priority.

The MemoGold program was launched to select members to show our
appreciation to those who have stuck with us over the years. We will keep
the system in place and current Memogold members will still receive other
benefits of having an upgraded account, but the accelerated prize shipping
won't be reintroduced until we have our prize shipments back under control.
Once this has happened, we'll be launching the MemoGold program in full
force and we can concentrate on giving it the attention it needs to be the
best elite program on the Web!

You have continually asked us for forthright and honest answers. We are
doing this for you today, even though it may not be the answer you want.
We have confidence that this is the best solution, and quite possibly the
ONLY solution, if we want to get out of this three year prize shipping
deficit.

We welcome your feedback - but understand that we are unable to answer all
emails regarding specific prizes at this time. While we are working
through this new prize plan, we will be concentrating on prize
organization, and emails related to specific prizes may go unanswered until
we know where we stand. All other questions related to your account will
be handled as quickly and as accurately as possible. Without hundreds of
prize questions daily, we hope to give more attention to other Member
Support issues.

We appreciate your understanding. Please know we are doing the best we can
to rectify this situation as soon as possible. When this new strategy
proves successful, and we are able to ship all the prize requests, it will
mean a new beginning for Memolink, and a fresh start for its loyal members!

Unlike others in the industry, we're not looking to take the easy way out.
We will pay off all prizes while continuing to enhance the point earning
opportunities and services available to you on Memolink.com.

Memolink has been in business since 1994 and will celebrate its 10 year
anniversary this June. We're looking forward to another 10 years in
business and hope that you'll continue to be a loyal member.

Best regards,

Memolink Member Support Team

Is that a bunch of baloney, or what? They need to get out in the real world more. Why would I shop thru a site that has a reputation for taking forever to reward its members, changes the rules for prize fulfillment every 6 months and never gives anyone a straight answer? Especially when there so many programs like CR and CTTM who offer personal responses to emails, prompt crediting of points and a decent turnaround time on prize fulfillment.

I'm placing this one in the "I'm so done with you" pile. It'll be right next to BLINK and ePoll.

I got that email too. This statement from memolink is what irritated me the most:

"We have many loyal members that come to our site each day to complete offers worth many points. These members keep us in business and will be rewarded - they will receive theirprizes. We also have many loyal members that come to our site each day and participate in only "free point offers" that don't bring in revenue. We are happy to provide these free offers, but this has caused an unforeseen financial strain that may need to be corrected if prizes aren't caught up soon. "

I always thought if a company was the site of the day, they would be paying memolink to get people to their site. What it sounds like is memolink has mismanaged their business and I would not be supprised if they too will be gone very very soon.

Also the members who only participated in "free point offers" don't hold you breath on getting your prizes. Notice they don't directly say those memberes will be getting our prizes.

I'm cashing out at my next point level, hope I get my prizes that they owe me ( they offered the free point offers but I won't hold my breath in seeing the prizes in my mailbox) and then it is bye bye memolink for me.

I'm with you mad4themouse!! It's amazing how many people will form a rewards program thinking they will be making money for themselves and end up folding or changing the rules half-way through.

You know what really makes me mad is the fact that I was going to start online shopping with them. I do almost all my shopping on Mypoints, but I wanted to be able to cash out for other prizes for our cruise. No way now! Why would anyone want to shop through their site especially after that letter?

If I remember correctly, isn't PCHPoints hosted by memolink? I wonder what those implications will be???

Add Memolink to my list too along with DA and Blink for companies that don't pay what they promise!!

So if you generate revenue for them you get your rewards? I thought they got paid when you clicked on a link to go to their advertisers site (sure not as much as a purchase, but still...).

My feeling is they have gotten away with giving one excuse after another and still have yet to send out rewards for getting points (NO MATTER HOW they were accumulated) and it is time something is done. I think I am going to get in touch with the BBB, Planet Feedback and whoever else I can file a complaint with. What could it hurt? It's not like I am going to get my reward anytime soon anyways...:headache:

Thanks for the update mad4themouse! :D

Quite frankly, why would I shop through them if they don't pay. The only rewards programs I shop through are the ones that pay and I prefer to only shop through CR because they reward the points right away and pay right away. I do have to shop through MyPoints sometime because CR doesn't have what I'm looking for.

Well that's my two cents.

Lori

Well, all I can say is that I have received my rewards from PCH and LuckyPoints. Although I may have actually shopped through both of them a few times. I have never shopped through Memolink because of their reputation for not rewarding shopping points.

Oh, well. I just cashed out again at Memolink last week or so. Still waiting for my first cash out. Maybe I'll get them, maybe I won't. Right along with my Blink cashout.

I ran across all of these reward programs and thought I was quite savvy clicking my fingers away. Now I am just shy of points from cashing out and it seems the more I read, the more I will never get to the reward level nor will I receive the reward once I select. I, too, have been waiting my Blink reward. Ha... good thing it wasn't anything I was hoping to use for a Disney vacation!!!

I have to agree, I never shop through Memolink because they just don't get their rewards out...I mean, I remember waiting almost a year for a gift certificate through them! ...and I am sure that was quick according to some people! That is horrible! My Points usually takes *at the most* 3 weeks to receive a Gift Certficiate...I will continue to shop through My Points!::yes::

Ah, glad I dropped this one a few months back for sure now. I see it was a good idea.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they folded real soon. They shouldn't offer free sites if they don't intend to fulfill their obligations to us. They are the ones that promise to fulfill a prize when you get to a certain prize level. Well, they are not doing that. It is really unfair. I have three prizes due me since July. I have written to them on several occassions without a response back. I shop through my points and would never shop through them. What for, to be more aggravated when they don't pay up. And as far as being a memogold member that is baloney. I am a memogold member - a lot of good that has done me. I will finish doing them until I get to the next level and that's it for me. I also am waiting for Blink - but I will probably be completely gray by the time I get their reward - if ever.... FRUSTRATING!!!!

I'm glad that other posters can warn me away from potential time wasting aggrivations.

I have been waiting on a gift card from PCH since mid nov... and one from LP since mid dec. while it has only been 8 weeks, it seemed bad when most say PCH delivers fast...and this info only makes me more worried.

Faith,

Have you emailed PCH or LP? One of them owed me a WalMart GC, and when I emailed them they sent it out (maybe not right away, but within a week). But I did get it about 8 weeks after my original cashout.

Please don't flame me...but I'd like to add my opinion...

I know I'm in the minority, while I don't shop too frequently via Memolink, I do have to appreciate the fact that they have honored their commitments. I waited over a year, but I did receive my two $50 Wal-Mart gift cards. Was it a long wait? You bet, but I treat all of the reward programs as "found" money. I don't count on it for essentials...like next week's groceries.

I hope that Memolink follows through, and as in the past, I receive my gift cards.

I have not cashed out any of my Memolink points and have well over 10,000. I have however, ordered ink for my printer using their site and STILL have not received my points for doing so. This was well over a year ago.

I have contacted them many times about this, even sent them a copy of my receipt via the internet, and have yet to get a response from them.

It seems that so many sites are now doing this. Not rewarding what you have earned from them.

Very frustrating!!!

No flames here. I think you're one of the fortunate few. It appears that Memolink is going to adopt a policy of paying those who make purchases first and then, if there's anything left over, they'll pay their other members. So, if you're willing to shop thru them, you might get your reward in 6 months or so. If not, you'll be waiting a year or more. In other words, they will robe Peter (the non-shoppers) to pay Paul (the shoppers).

That's not the policy which is stated on their website and it's not what it says when you cashout. If this email were not posted on a number of message boards within the rewards community, members would not be aware of their new policies.

To me, it looks like Memolink is heading down the tubes. If they still have not crawled out of the "Dot.Bomb" hole of the late 90's, then they should not be around. The classic symptoms of a rewards program in trouble is the double-speak emails to members and extremely slow turnaround time for rewards.

As far as it being "found money", I agree. All rewards programs are "found money". However, I don't think that it makes sense to shop thru a program that may or may not send me my reward within a year of cashing out when there are other programs out there that are more reliable and have better reputations.

I posted the Memolink's email to inform other members who may not have corresponded with them recently. What each of us does with that info us up to the individual. For my part, I would not encourage anyone to join Memolink. The points may add up quickly but after being a member for over a year, they have resulted in nothing for me.

I appreciated your posting it!!! I got my email after you had posted...so it was nice to be prepared for it.

It does take a while for the points to add up, especially if you're like me and don't shop online very often (or use MyPoints or another site to earn pts).

I just reached the 3,000 pt mark and was considering cashing in. Are some rewards from Memolink processed more quickly than others, or is their redemption program slow across the board? I'm considering one of the restaurant GCs or cash.

Since I'm only at the 3,000 level, if I redeem say 1,800, do I have to build back up to 3,000 pts to redeem again?

I'm only at about 2800 pts. I'm beginning to wonder if I should even waste my time trying to reach the 3000 pt level to cash in.:(

I would say go for it. With the emails you receive that are usually 6 points total, it would not take very long to accumulate the last 200 points. Do the daily trivia & site of the day and you have 55 points per week or so also. So for being this close, I would try it.

One thing they did in December (I haven't visited this board in awhile - sorry - so this may be a repeat) is to redeposit points for very OLD unfulfilled redemptions. At first this angered me immensely, however, when I thought about it and used the example of the quantity of address changes I have to look through at work on a daily basis......Can you imagine sending out 1000 2 year old redemptions? A lot of their target market was college age. I bet 85% of those items would be returned and then they would be starting over. I think redepositing and having you redeem again is more practical in that aspect.

Memogold is supposed to receive in what? 8 weeks?

Not flaming you Ginny, but I look at it a little differently. These RP programs are businesses. You have utilized their services and aren't receiving your product. There are too many programs that have folded (hmmmm, let me see Kris of Disney Awards comes to mind) after they've set up the sites, collected money from their advertisers/merchants and sent out very few rewards, if any to their members. I understand what you are saying about found money, but remember someone is making money off you clicking and shopping at their site. If they don't do as they promise and send out their rewards in a timely manner they are cheating you plain and simple. We should not have to wait more than 2-3 months top for rewards. I know I wouldn't buy something on Ebay and accept delivery a year from now. There are very few sites anymore that pay on a timely basis, but there are some. Why bother with sites that change the rules halfway through the game?
