Wait your turn!! New seating rules for CS restaurants at WDW...

Oh, and as for the whole "just discreetly show your GAC" - A) There's no such thing as discreetly showing a GAC. It's pretty obvious what you're doing no matter how private you try to be.

I think that this may be how those who use the GACs may feel, but I can assure you that on 10 trips to Disney I have never noticed ANYONE using one. It probably is what you are aware of. And most people are not even aware that there are things called GACs.

See, that is my question. Where on earth do the powers that be think that the people who bring their own food in eat? From what I have read on this board before, it is at these very tables! So now you can bring food in, but you have nowhere to eat it. :confused3

I believe that Disney allows people to bring in their own food, but does not encourage it. There are no places - picnic tables or the like - for people to set up to eat a meal that they have brought in.

When we take in snacks, etc., we usually find a bench to sit on or eat on the run. I don't believe that the tables at restaurants are meant for those who do not patronize them.

I thought I read somewhere on the dis some time ago that they were doing this at pecos bills,so I think this has been going on there for some time now. I only read the first couple pgs. of this thread and then the last couple so sorry if I say something out of line. Has anyone seen this done at any other cs locations? Again I believe that pb's has been doing this for some time now. Not a bad idea but I have to say, I travel with my sister and 11 children ages 3-18 . two of whom have autism and cant stand close crowds
(go figure we still go to disney for 3 weeks every August). WE tend to send them to table with one of the older kids so as not to cause a scene and disrupt other peoples vacations. Guess we will have to wait and see or just avoid pbs. Plenty of other places to go and things to see in the wonderful world of disney.

We ate at PBs about a week ago and they weren't doing this. We ate at several CS restaurants, some that were extremely busy, over the course of two plus weeks and never encountered what the OP described.

As mentioned the whole party isn't required to stand in line, so I would think there should be other "open" areas in the common area of the restaurant that should work for your sister's kids as well as a crowded seating area.

When I was there with my 12 year old niece last summer, I did not feel comfortable leaving her alone to find a table while I stood in line for the food. So we stood in line together, then we had to walk round and round trying to find a table. Most of the tables had people sitting there without food. Sounds like a great idea.

COUNT ME OUT! While I can see how this might work, it does not help for our family with having to take care of a child with special needs.

I just ate at Pecos Bills June 30th at lunchtime and this policy was not in place, thank goodness.

I never had a problem finding a table to sit at?

And, yes at McDonalds, I DO have the family sit at a table and wait, it clears up the lines and 'empty spaces" from having more bodies hanging around than needed.

This policy would not work for me. Even here in the 'real' world I have to settle my husband in a seat and then go order the food. It would be nearly impossible for me to have him in line with me as I attempt to order the food and get it to the table. I have hard enough time trying to get him to understand the concept of why he must sit still until I get back.

It is a long story and complicated but that is the way it is and it is not likely to get a bit easier. :confused3

I cannot imagine what the lines at the CS place would be like if everyone in the party had to be together in line. Maybe I am misunderstanding the new rules??

As far as eating any non park food inside a restaurant that is not something I would consider. I can see where some might if it is a slow time at a restaurant but there are many other places for folks to eat their picnics. They even used to have a picnic table right outside the Garden Grill.

Slightly Goofy

I'm sure there are still some disgruntled Hoosiers, but I haven't heard a peep about DST since now that they're using it.

You haven't talked to my Grandmother. ;) Everytime I talk to her she goes on about how DST is messing things up. Gotta love her though. :)

There is nothing worse than waiting on line with three kids and a husband! I prefer to send them ahead to get the table while I wait in line and get all the food. The line areas will be more crowded with people, kids, toddlers and babies. Imagine trying to get your tray through a sea of hungry kiddos and their cranky parents being forced to wait on line.I'll have to remember toeat lunch early this trip.

1) So, do the same thing at the CS spots.
2) WOW!
3) I just solved one of the biggest problems on this post.
4) Am I good, or what?
No, because you didn't solve any problem. I explained in another post (which you must have missed) how CS differs from TS, making this less than practical and a considerably bigger hassle than it is with TS.

And I can assure you having made trips to WDW that many people notice it no matter how discreet you try to be. I know this because of the rude comments we have heard on those rare occasions we use it. Some people know what it is and make snide comments about how we're abusing the system because "they can tell" we don't need one. Some people don't know what it is and make comments about how they think it's rude or unfair of us to have a "VIP pass" or some other comment along those lines. And some people speculate out loud that there "must be something wrong" with us if we get to "skip."

It's gotten to the point that we avoid using the card if at all possible. We tour early morning using UG touring plans to avoid lines whenever possible. At peak times of day, my kids (and my daughter especially) consider carefully whether the benefit of using it will offset the embarrassment and depression that she will feel if/when the rude comments are made. The alternative isn't to just wait in the long line -- it's endure the rude comments or not go on the ride at all. No - people don't always make comments, but it has happened enough that the decision to use it or not is a stressful one. My heart breaks a little bit every time she's forced to make that decision, and it's far worse whenever she "chooses wrong" and overhears people making terrible comments.

Everybody thinks they have the magic solution here that will surely work for everybody "if only we try it." I'm telling you there are things in the world that don't have to be "tried" to know whether they will work smoothly for us or not. This is one of them -- it will not work as well as the old way for us.

The system was not broken for the vast majority of people - 83%, if we can extrapolate from the poll here. This is an idiotic solution in search of a problem.

I apologize now for all of what I've written. I'm sure will be misunderstood yet again, but I had to get it off my chest. I won't bother checking in here anymore.

We had lunch at PB's on the 17th and 24th and they were not doing this. We also had counter service lunch or dinner somewhere in the parks on about 10 days over a 2 week period and none of them were doing this.

I have arthritis and from the outside no one can tell that I sometimes have a problem walking or standing in one place for long periods of time. Things are sometimes not what they seem. dqpowell I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like to have people make hurtful comments that upset your children.

This wouldn't work for us. Standing in a line with a 4 year old:scared1: At least while DH or I are in line getting the food, the other of us is entertaining DS with a book or toy that we brought with us just for this occasion:thumbsup2

Again...from my own personal experience, the waiting members of the party are not by any means in the way of the food carriers, nor do you all have to wait in line together. The lines at the registers move much, much quicker than they used to, and there are plenty of tables for everyone.

For the life of me, I don't get the resistance from some of you guys to the much more improved system, only to be used during the extremely busy seasons, including all the issues with special needs kids, cranky parents, impatient in-laws, whatever. Coming from a father of 2 kids, whos wife had to god forbid hang out with two kids for the much more efficient 3-5 minutes it took to get our food, then to ushered directly to a clean table with plenty of chairs for everyone. What a horrific experience!!! I much prefer my wife having to drag our kids all over the restaurant asking people if they're done eating, then plopping down and having to clean the table herself, while I wait in an unorganized 15 minute line for food!! It's so much more relaxing that way! I hope they stop the new system immediately!!:rotfl:

From what the manager told me, the system has been running to rave reviews, by guests who have actually experienced it, and he feels that it'll be around for some time to come.

I have a feeling this rule won't last very long. Do you actually see Cast Members going up to people who are sitting at tables while their families are getting food and telling them they can't sit there until their family comes back with food. The people who save tables are still going to eat there, so they just have their family members in line which makes a lot of sense. The only place my family and I do this is at the Earl of Sandwich and we will be doing it again next month, to see if they are really enforcing the rule.

Considering they don't crack down on people using old mugs and etc, what makes you think they are really going to enforce this rule?

I saw them doing it with my own eyes...believe it or not, it actually worked.

The OP stated that you couldn't enter the dining room until you had your food in your hand. Your point is moot. BTW, Earl of Sandwich is not a Disney-owned restaurant :)
