How does an attraction have over an hour wait time when the park has not even opened yet. I looked at the app and it is now 8:40 and it says FOP has oven an hour wait.....the park does not open until 9:00.

Some times they open the park early It is always a good idea to get to the parks an hour before they open

It's not uncommon for them to open up the park early. Especially animal kingdom. They likely opened at about 8:30

Park times change at the last minute.
AK frequently will open Pandora early. The ride may not actually start running until the park opens, but they let people in and get in line. Other times the rides will start running early.

Touring Plans have a lines app. I'm not sure if you have to be a member to use it or not.

You do have to be. We used it a lot on our trip in June and it was much closer to accurate wait times than what was posted or the time in MDE.

In this specific case, I think AK had AM EMH. They did for all of June and I heard they were doing all of July too. Plus, they're letting guests into AK early and essentially walking them back to Pandora so they're pretty much getting on the ride at open instead of walking through the gate then.

If you're not familiar with this, it's called Extra Magic Hours. For guests staying onsite, the parks either open an hour early or stay a couple hours after closing. Certain parks do this on certain days; the schedule is on the Disney website.

I see. When I looked at the calendar, I didn't see them every day in July, but my friend told me AK was doing July too, so I thought she heard something from one of her CM friends. Didn't mean to spread bad info!

So I guess they still walk people back to Pandora before open on regular days too.

If you have a Fast Pass for FoP you can use this to your advantage. We had a fast pass for FoP and almost 80/90% of the crowd peeled off for Pandora. We did just the opposite and managed EE with a 5 minute wait and 5 for Kali and 10 for the Safari. That crowd to Pandora tends to move to fast and people an be less than polite as they herd off to Pandora.
