Wait time with DAS

We will be using DAS for the first time next week and I'm trying to tweak our touring plan. When checking in at a ride, do you tend to still have minimal wait (say 5 minutes) or do you usually get on near immediately? Thanks.

After your DAS Return Time arrives, you can go directly into the Lightning Lane entrance.
Your exact wait in that line before boarding will depend on the attraction and how many people are already in that line - you will not be cutting ahead of anyone already in line.
Plan on an average wait of 15 minutes. If there are very few ahead of you, your wait may be less. For busy attractions or those that load in ‘batches’, your wait will be longer. Examples of attractions that load in batches include Test Track, Flight of Passage, Soarin - those attractions have an informational preshow and then load a bunch of guests together.

my experience pre genie in August and October was a small wait. Never more than 10 minutes. With Genie people in the line I’m not sure!

I would say anywhere between 5-15 minutes wait. If going at a very busy time or if something happens like they need to add another car on the track can be up to 30 minute but unless you go at a very busy time thst Is uncommon

Once you have a return time and are going back to the ride to enter the line you enter the Lightning Lane so you'll be waiting with those who have G+ or ILL$.
How long you wait will depend on the particular attraction, time of day, how crowded the parks are etc.
What I will say is that I often waited 5 minutes or less but YMMV.

I'll echo the "it depends" response -- expect about 15 minutes. Actual wait may well be shorter but could just as easily be twice that.

A not-so-unusual situation that frequently happened with FP:
  • I walk up to an attraction with my DAS and enter the LL queue with only a few people ahead of me. I ride and am exiting the attraction 5 minutes later.
  • Right behind me a large group or multiple parties of FP (now G+) riders enter the queue.
  • You enter the queue 2 minutes after them.
While I rode within 5 minutes, and you entered the queue before I was off, there were a lot more people ahead of you in the queue and it might take 20 minutes for your party to ride.

Hi… I just got back from my own trip to Disney using the DAS! You use your DAS to hop into the Lightning Lane with everybody else. So the question is, how long is the Lightning Lane? In some cases, you really do get on the ride immediately.

In other cases, and I experienced this quite often during this past week, you don’t get on immediately. A LOT of people are paying for Lightning Lane, and when I was there these past few days, that Lightning Lane was not exactly fast. We spent 30 minutes or more in many of the Lightning Lanes!

Sometimes it’s a simple walk right onto the ride. Sometimes it’s not. :)

Be prepared that a ride can go down while you are waiting in line. It doesn't happen often, but it definitely can happen. Have a plan B ready, just in case. The longest wait we've experienced with DAS was over an hour. The ride went down just as we were getting ready to board. That wait did not go well for us, so now we always have a backup plan at the ready.

If the ride goes down will they let you leave the line and come back? Or if something goes wrong in the line (meltdown, panic attack) will they let you leave and come back? I’m sure it depends on the CM but what have people experienced?

I was next in line to go for Mine Train. We waited over 30 minutes which is about as long as I can do comfortably. They said we can leave, but we wouldn’t get our DAS time back. What made me so mad, was that people coming in with DAS on our way out were being issued multiple experience. So because we scanned in 5 minutes too early, we were out of luck, but everyone else after us got something even though they didn’t wait 30 minutes in line. It left an awful taste in my mouth. This was in October.

Oh no that’s terrible! You especially should have gotten a pass to return at any point. You’d already done the waiting plus some.

I know! We asked both the cast members boarding the ride and the ones at the entrance if there was anything to be done and sadly all 4 said there was nothing that could be! They were apologetic. The line has to be officially dumped to get your return time back.
