Wait list.......?

Can someone help me understand how the wait list works? :confused3

I've gathered that you can wait list by day, or for an entire reservation...but how does the wait list by day work?

Let's say I want to stay at BCV from SUN-THUR, and there's nothing available. So.....I make a ressie at BWV instead, and wait list by day at BCV. Does that mean that if, say, TUES opens up at BCV, I could conceivably take that day and end up at BWV on SUN-MON, BCV on TUE, and back at BWV on WED-THUR? Just don't see how that would be useful....

It seems to me that I'd prefer an "all-or-nothing" result from a wait list....but I must be missing something, since many of the more knowledgable folks on these boards advise wait-listing by day....

Yes, that is possible. However, the chances of all the days coming through are better if you do it on an individual day basis. You have to decide if the risk of ending up moving back and forth is worth it. If not, then you should waitlist for all the days to become available at once.

You aren't missing anything. It's a lot easier (stress wise) to waitlist for individual days if you have enough points to hold the back up reservation until the waitlist works. If the waitlist doesn't produce all the days you want by 31 days prior to arrival, you cancel any days that did come through and stay at the back up.

If you do't have enough points, you have to cancel a day at the back up to accept the waitlist. That's nerve wracking for some of us (me included), so I really value my 11 month window at the resort I prefer.

Just a note on waitlists -

Let 's say you need Sun - Thurs and waitlist for the whole thing together.
Member A just wants Mon and Tues but waitlisted individually for them.
Member B wants Thursday through Saturday (together).
Member C wants just Tuesday.

Let's say they go on the waitlist in the order I listed.

DVC does not hold days for someone. Suppose Tuesday and Wednesday become available - who gets it?

Member A gets Tuesday and Wednesday just goes back into inventory.

So you can see why there is a better chance of the waitlist working if you can do it on an individual day basis. But you do run the risk of having to move if everything doesn't come through.

You have to decide how to do it based on your own tolerance for risk.

Best wishes -

There are people who have enough points (and are OK with the banking deadlines) to be holding 2 ressies at once. So, if the whole waitlist doesn't come through, they cancel the one with holes. Also, there are people who do move from 1 resort or room to another.

I have had a "all or nothing" waitlist come through. I've only done it once, needed a 2 bedroom SV at BWV, I had 2 SV studios. I've also had a day by day waitlist come through. For my day by day, I didn't have a back up ressie at all. I needed to borrow for the ressie and if I booked somewhere else, I would have borrowed points left over if SV studio did come through, and it was too early for me to book OKW.

Pixie Dust for your waitlist to all come through.

i certainly won't have enough points to hold an intial ressie until all the days on a day-by-day wait list come through....unless i borrow them from next year.

question : if i reserve at BWV (for instance) and waitlist for BCV - then the BCV waitlist comes through, am i allowed to then BANK the points from the cancelled BWV ressie to the following year to replace those that i borrowed for the waitlist BCV ressie?

it's all so confusing! :headache:

You can bank any current-year points that are freed up when you cancel the BWV reservation, provided you are within your banking deadlines. If any of those points were banked from your previous use year or were borrowed points, then those banked/borrowed points cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the use year.

Edited to add: just remember, any current-year points that are freed up when you cancel that you then bank will have to be used by the end of the use year into which you bank them. They cannot be borrowed back into their original use year and cannot be rebanked.

We did a wait list for a studio at SSR and got all five days [all or none]. Feb. 06 vacation.
We were on the wait list for approx. 5 weeks. Good luck!!!

I have another wait list question.

When do you fall off the wait list? I have been reading something about 30 or 31 days, but it is not clear to me what that was for.

We are on a wait list for October 18 - 28th. We also have backup reservations at the WL just in case. We requested studio or 1 bedroom at four of the five DVC's at WDW.

Do we stay on the wait list up to our arrival date or are we removed at some date prior to that.

Thanks,

Unless you call MS and tell them you want to stay on the waitlist, you "fall off" at the 30 day mark.

There are no waitlists at all 7 days and closer to arrival. If you are still interested, you must call every day (or more often, LOL) and hope you get lucky.

I'm wait listed for a change from a 2 bdrm dedicated to a 2 bdrm lock-off within SSR on 10/28 & 10/29. This is my first time with wait listing and I forgot to ask if MS automatically changes the reservation if it becomes available or does MS contact us before making the change. I thought the CM said it would stay on the list until 7 days prior to the trip, but the earlier posts sound like it's only good until 30 days prior to the trip. Which is correct?

The rest of our stay was changed last week since the days were available. It's not that big a deal to us if we have to change rooms after the first two nights, I'm just trying to understand how the whole wait list thing works.

I guess I should of checked the DVC web-site before I posted. Our reservation has been changed to the 2 bdrm lock-off. It's nice to now we won't have to move.:cool1:
