Wait list - we are two for two...

It does seem, from our experience, that wait lists have a much greater chance for success if they're for just one or perhaps two nights...longer ones don't seem to work out.

Prior to the rules change, there was no limit on the number of active waitlists you could have, and you could W/L day-by-day...of about 12 W/Ls, all but one came through--including one 5-night spring break trip booked about 6 weeks out (I have a DS in college/law school who's "allergic" to planning, so since 2005 we've tried to do at least 8 last-minute trips--all worked out prior to the rules change; none since)...since the rule change, I've only had one W/L come through, and it was for just one night (which I'd booked for cash thru MS and W/L'ed to get it on points...that ressie was about 5 months out and it took about 3 weeks for the one night on points W/L to come through)...

So the new rules do seem to limit W/L success...

I've been told that waitlists are filled at a designated time in the day, once per day, by the computer( can we say batch file). That is why others will call and get available inventory before your waitlist has a chance to be filled by the computer. So in the future, I would continue to call as well as waitlist.

Although you might be correct, I have read posts on this board where a member had a room cancelled in error while on the phone with MS, and when they realize the error, while still on that same phone call, they cannot get that room back because it has been "snapped up by the waitlist". If that really does happen it seems the waitlist is checked every time there is a cancellation.

The mysteries of the waitlist process are frustrating to me, especially the fact that they cannot tell you where you are at on the waitlist. For example if I want to waitlist for a particular night at a particular resort and they could tell me there are already 30 other waitlists for that night at that resort in that category, I would probably waitlist at a different resort. However, that information is not available.

That exact situation did happen to me, but they were able to get it back because I really still had it. It's a long story.

Man, y'all are making me feel bad.

I've only been a member for a little over 2 years and next month will be my 2nd DVC trip and I'm already 2 for 2 with waitlists. In 2009, we had a waitlist come thru for a BWV studio with a BW view for Thanksgiving week and for the first week in March this year we ended up getting a 2BR standard view at BWV after being on a waitlist for about a month.(Made the reservation in late Nov '10 and waitlist came thru in early Jan '11)

I guess I've just been lucky and I'm sure the odds will catch up with me sooner or later....hopefully later!
