Wait list strategy help please

Hi,
This board has been unbelievably educational as we're new (and excited for the first trip!). We can't find an answer to this one...

We booked a reservation 5/1 to 5/3. Decided we want to stay 5/2 to 5/4. 5/3-5/4 is not available and if it doesn't become available we don't and to lose 5/1.

1. We wait listed 5/2-5/4 and asked to replace 5/1-5/3; if 5/2-5/3 becomes sold out would our request be filled since we have a reservation on 5/2 already on our original one?

2. Should we split 5/1 and 5/2 into separate 1 night reservations and submit a waitlist request to replace 5/1 with 5/3 (leaving 5/2 alone), then if it goes through call Member Services and ask them to combine the 2 individual nights into 5/2-5/4?

We don't have enough points to just add 5/3 night without replacing something. I know... buy more points ;).
 
Since waitlists are all or nothing, you would be waitlisting a night you already have.

If there is still availability to split it, then that keeps it clean so you can do the 1:1 replace…

But if there is not, then just call MS to set up the waitlist so they can not that what you want is the 5/3 to replace the 5/1 night.
 
Thanks!! Just went through and did as suggested. Then if the waitlisted night comes through I'll call and ask to combine the 2 nights as they are identical otherwise.
