Wait List Question

I was hoping (although not really expecting) to get a concierge studio or 1BR at AKV for our August trip...much to my surprise we got a concierge studio for the last 3 nights of our 6 night stay AND I was able to book a savannah view studio AKV for the first 3 nights. I am wait listed for the concierge studio for those first 3 nights....so here is my question/s....

1. Has anyone ever gotten a concierge unit at AKV from a wait list?? Is it just too much to hope for?

2. I thought I understood member services to say that all 3 nights would have to become available for my waitlist to come through. Is this correct? If so would there be any advantage to calling back frequently to see if I can add individual nights one at a time to my current reservation instead of waiting patiently for my wait list to possibly come through?? (patience is not my best thing!!)

Thanks for the advice....we have been DVC'ers for 10+ years and I think this is my first experience with a wait list!

I"ve never waitlisted at AKV, but I"ve waitlisted frequently at other resorts...

You can waitlist either for each day (separate waitlists) of the time you want, or you can waitlist for the whole time...

THe risk of waitlisting for the whole time is that they will only fulfill your waitlist request if all nights of the "stretch" come available--so say you want 3 days--if 2 of the 3 come avalable, you won't get them--you'll only get the waitlist request if all 3 come available at the same time.

The risk of waitlisting day by day is that you may get a night in the middle of your 3-day (for example) request...thus, you could find yourself in one room for 3 days, another room for one day, still another room for another day, and then still another room for your last day...that's a "worst case scenario," of course...but it's a real risk...

Waitlists are now automatic, too--so you can't waitlist, take your chances, and decide when you see what comes through. Once a waitlist comes thru, you get it--if it's set up to replace an existing reservation, you wind up with the possiblity of moving rooms every day or every other day for a stretch of time...

So, there are risks either way...

Calling each day isn't supposed to be helpful (altho there have been posts that suggest the automatic waitlist doesn't work as perfectly as DVC might like)...that's because previously-made waitlist requests will take priority over your request during your phone call.

Having said that, twice now I've had the good luck of getting a villa I wanted by calling for it on a regular basis (I didn't use the waitlist those times, tho)...particularly in the last few days prior to the start of your waitlist time, it's amazing how often a late cancellation comes in and all the previous waitlists have expired (they all expire, I think, 30 days out--you can then call to renew one up til 7 days out--after that, there's no "official waitlist"--I think that's the process)...

GOod luck...sure hope you get what you want...

Waitlisted for concierge unit for nights before and after an existing early April reservation just over a week ago. First night came thru already.

We have had good luck with day by day waitlists. The result is messy, each day is given a unique reservation number, they are then linked.

If you have enough points available consider a day by day waitlist in addition to the savannah view and cancel the savannah view days when it makes sense. (If you get the middle night first cancel the savannah view for that night only when you get the third night as well.)

Thanks for the info. I think I will do the day by day waitlist and then call as often as I can to check on random availability. Your advice really helped.
