Wait list for Hilton Head?

We're relatively new members and just got back from the Magic Cruise. While on the cruise we talked about maybe going to HH for summer vacation, 5 nights, Sunday - Friday. (we own at SSR)

So I just called MS and they are all booked till the end of August! :furious: I got on a waitlist for 7 different weeks, we are very flexible as to when we go in the summer.

Do you think we have a chance at getting in?

I'm also going to look at the II sites, but those will take more points, and I'll have to go with a one bedroom.

I am not sure how the waitlist will come out, but I have heard here on the board that HHI is very hard to get into in the summer at the 7 month or closer window. People who own there book at the 11 month window. Keep us posted on if your waitlist comes through, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Good Luck:sunny:

well, we did request a 2bd unit, so maybe we'll have some luck.

Also thinking, if we go someplace else in HH (we're only 4 hours drive away), will we be able to get a tour of the grounds at HH? I'm thinking from the perspective of possibly trying to buy points at HH for future use and then have the 11 month window always. But I want to see the resort first for myself.

Thanks!

I do take exception to the folks who buy HHI as a low cost approach to booking Orlando. It can work but I believe this is the wrong approach. However, in your case being so close is a real advantage. The biggest problem with HHI is the hassle of getting there (changing flights, hour drive, etc.). It a nice buy for someone who wants to use both at HHI as well as Orlando. I think it's too expensive to use exclusively on the Island (there are better options) and too risky to use exclusively in Orlando. I might be a good fit for you. Keep in mind that it is very easy to book there off season. We booked there in late March with no problem.

I'm actually very surprised that the entire resort is booked thru August right now (since there have usually been at least scattered 2BRs available at this time in the past). However, I'm also confident that the waitlist will come thru for you if you are flexible with your dates.

There are 21 Studios, 21 1BR villas, 76 dedicated 2BR villas and 5 GVs at the resort. Summer is always the prime time at HH in general and the DVC resort in particular.

If you are unable to find a reservation but are in the area, you can certainly stop at the resort, but if they are at capacity they may be unable to allow you to see any of the actual rooms. There are no models at the resort any more and no sales staff either. Your best bet would be to go there on a Friday or Saturday about 2PM since the majority of checkouts occur then and there could be some unoccupied rooms you could see. They will likely allow you self tour the resort itself, but may not be able to provide access to the Beach House since that is really only for registered guests (unless they have a CM available to provide a personalized tour). The Beach House is accessible thru a security gate (you'd need a resort auto pass) and then by access thru a room key activated entry door. The beach itself is a public beach. It can't hurt to ask.

We have enjoyed going to HH for years - long before the DVC resort opened - and did purchase contracts there specifically to have summer access. If you enjoy the area, a resale may be a great solution if you wish to go there in the summer.

Enjoy!

We joined about 2 weeks ago;we were able to get a 2br @ HH the week of 8/20-8/25. I really wanted July but I felt we were lucky getting that! LOL And our kids don't go back to school till after Labor Day;and it coincides with our DS's 5th bday! So it should make for a memorable trip! If your dates are flexible you should be able to get something. Hope this helps! Angel

mydogdrew,
I just saw your post and it mentioned the hassle of changing planes to get to HH. Just an FYI Delta has just added non-stop flights from Boston to Savannah.

Plus, there are very few major resort areas anymore that aren't some drive from a major airport, IMHO. Most either require a charter, a connecting flight, or a lengthy drive.

Thanks - that's good news. We tend to only take direct flights. Fortunately we have many options between Boston, Providence and Manchester!

We went to HH in Sept 2002 and I hated it - well actually I hated the beetles. Don't think we'll be going there again unless there is a time of year when the beetles are not in evidence!

Anyone know please?

You went to Hilton Head in general or our DVC in HH? Our DVC had the bugs as well?

Unfortunatley my dd goes back to school around the 23 or 24 so at the time, nothing is available for me yet. I went on a waiting list though with about 7 different time options so I was being very flexible and I really hope something will open up.

It just isn't helping though for my dh now to say "see, this is the problem I have with time shares of any kind...I want to go on vacation where and when I want to go..." I told him it would just take a little more advance planning to get summer of 07 if this year doesn't work out.

We had a studio at DVC Hilton Head. We ended up keeping the balcony doors shut at all times and everytime I went in and out i searched the place for the horrid things. It still makes my skin crawl just thinking about it :sad2:

We have vacationed at HHI twice never saw a bug in or near our room either time. We did see a spider in the woods at Sea Pines and took a picture of its beautiful web.

FWIW:
We're already have a trip planned for Vero late May and OKW early June. Last month I thought let's leave earlier and stop at HH on the way down since we hadn't been there for a couple of years now.

Wouldn't hurt to check.

I called Jan 13th for a Studio and nothing was available. Well, it was just a thought. So we went on the waitlist. Maybe something would open up by early May.

On Jan 27th they called back. Waitlist came through.

Beetles? Not sure what you mean. What did they look like? You aren't talking about cockroaches (aka palmetto bugs) are you? They are always around, just like the Bikini Atoll, they will be there long after we are. It's the same in Florida if not worse (not sure that makes you feel any better though!). They thrive in the warm humid temperatures. But again, I'm not sure that's the "beetle" you refer to.

Yes it is the beetle I refer to. And fortunately in 8 trips to Florida I havent seen one - and I'd like to keep it that way please :teeth:

I was 'assured' by Disney staff they aren't cockroaches they are palmetto bugs - don't care - they are beetles and i have a total phobia about beetles. We even cancelled a holiday to Australia in 2003 cos I decided i couldnt cope with them after our trip to HH. Maybe I should try hypnosis to rid me of my fear - in fact if we start seeing them in Orlando I think I will have to try hypnosis  :rolleyes2

You may be in luck with getting in during the summer. It depends how far down the waitlist.

We have the week of July 2nd-July 7th booked at HHI, our home resort. If I can convince the DW and 2 kids to go to WDW we will be canceling it. Problem is...they have fallen in love with HHI and prefer it to WDW now.

If we do cancel....I will send you an message and let you know and we may be able to work out a trade and move the ressie to your name instead of canceling it.
