On Wednesday morning, I wait listed a 3 night stay for Jan 6th to the 9th at the Grand Californian. Went on just now to check it, and the 6th was available, so I booked it and re-did the wait for 7th to 9th!!! I cannot believe my luck! Now no more studios are available. What are my chances of the wait list coming through, because I'm sure I won't get that lucky again!!! Do they wait until both nights are available or will they hold a night for me and wait for the other to become available, how does it work?

Both nights must be available for the waitlist to work. They will not hold a night. Keep the waitlist, but also keep checking yourself for the best chance.

Good luck.

VGC is one of the hardest 7-month "gets" out there as it's a small resort and currently the only DVC resort at DL. We tried to book right at 7 months (to the minute) for anything at VGC for an upcoming 5-night stay. We got two days at the beginning in a 1BR. A month later, we got two nights on the back end in a GV. We are now just days away from our travel and have not been able to secure the night in between through either the waitlist or RAT. Sometimes, good things happen for those attempting to get into VGC, but not for us.

In the past when I didn't book VGC at my 11 month window & had to waitlist I always ended up having to book my waitlisted nights at one of the DLR hotels. I think I may have had a waitlist come through once back in the early days but never again. Unfortunately I rarely ever know far enough out to book VGC. And even for WDW I usually end up booking at my home resorts and rarely am able to book or move at the 7 month window withhout a combination of waitlisting, stalking and/or split stays. I own at OKW, BWV & VGC. Luckily I have BWV for F & W bookings.

Not sure if you’ll see this in time, but the 7th is currently available!

So question. Since I have never done this before. Is it frowned upon or taboo or straight up not allowed to wait list one night at a time?

Oh bummer! Yes, I’d recommend waitlisting each night separately. The only downside is if that middle night doesn’t come through. Also, stalk the RAT when you can - availability at VGC can really flop all over the place. Good luck!

If you read the wait list info on the website they tell you not to wait list separate nights because you may not end up getting everything you need but I do it that way all the time. You have better odds of picking up single nights as opposed to hoping the two or more nights you need become available to book at the same time. I was advised to do it this way by a member services CM many years ago. Of course when you need to wait list more than two nights it's a gamble & waiting game and you still have to keep checking yourself for the missing nights. In the past I've had it where I've picked up wait-listed nights myself and then I cancel the current wait list for that night and move on to wait list the next night I need. Some times it works out & I get everything I need but sometimes I end up having to book a different category room, move to a different resort or book a regular hotel room. Of course at DL you only have one choice for DVC resort and the hotel costs are much pricier than WDW.

@karrit2000 Oh okay, I thought it was not allowed according to the site, but if MS said you can....I think I may have better chances. If I end up not getting my middle night, I would probably just cancel and rent the points. Only reason I am trying is because we have about 57 points that we forgot to bank that I want to use up, and that week my kids are off school still.

I definitely agree with waitlisting each night separately. We've been lucky and have booked 3 last minute weekends at VGC in the last few months, twice in studios and a 1BR for this upcoming weekend. Most of those nights have been booked through single night waitlists and a couple through stalking (Just booked this Friday night in a 1BR on Monday! We already had Saturday night in a 1BR through a single night waitlist and will have MS combine the reservations). If possible I would book a backup reservation that you could cancel without penalty in case the waitlist comes through, since it is possible that the waitlist will come through much closer to the dates. Good luck!
