I read somewhere here that Disney calls your school to make sure you're eligible. There are some nasty and impatient people that pick up phones at my school... I can see the conversation going like this.

CP REP - HI, I'm calling from the Disney CP regarding one of your students-
Person #1 - Hold on let me forward you to <Insert random school position here>

This will probably repeat itself at least 3 times until they get in touch with one of the nasty women in registrar who will say they know nothing of the disney college program and will ask the women next to her who will respond with a head shake and shrug and go back to ruining people's schedules...

So, does Disney call before or after you've been accepted. I would hate to be rejected cause of my school... If someone's ever been rejected and didn't know why, could this possibly be the reason?

Unless it has changed, I doubt Disney calls your college. I also doubt that is the reason people get rejected, simply because when I did the CP, my school wasn't even verified, until after I was accepted, and had to fax in paperwork regarding it. I don't think it's about if your school has heard of the DCP or not, it's more about being eligible like GPA I am assuming. Because, I had to have a 2.5 I believe it was. So, I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Good Luck! :)

Haha you're the CSI person from the other thread, right?

I'm Brooklyn College. I'm sure all CUNY conversations would go that way. hahah. So yeah, hopefully they don't call the school or else you, me and Lauren (lauren in wonderland) are screwed.

I seriously doubt they call your school. If anything they're trying to treat you like adults and let you do all the hard work, esp the work that goes into the verification of your school and if they let you take credits with dcp or not. but if im wrong and they do call your school as cursedcarolers said, were all screwed in the cuny system. but i do believe its probably just a rumor. silly internet.

Well its better then a conversation that goes like this:

CP Rep: Hello Im from the disney College Program here to inquire about (insert name here)
College: Oh Disney huh.....never heard of ya.....have a good day. [click]

I accepted my role yesterday and in the process it said one of the things they still had to do was call my school and confirm attendance and gpa.

Which I don't know if they can do, what with the FERPA laws... very interesting.

It's been a while since I applied, but I believe one of the terms and conditions of applying is that you authorize Disney to contact your school. (You also authorize them to conduct a complete background check as well)

they don't call. that would take way too long. they send a list of everyone from each school to a contact that they have there and ask for them to validate that everyone there meets their requirements. my old roommate worked with this when she was on a PI in college recruiting.

she said that the kids that thought that this was a joke quickly learned that it wasn't when their recruiter called and told them that they couldn't participate because they didn't have a high enough gpa or whatever thier school required of them.

they have it in the application requirements.

When I did the program in fall 08 I gave the name and phone number of my advisor to call directly - so he obviously was aware I was doing the program. They never called - but I wouldn't be surprised if they verified enrollment via the Disney adviser that works for the college.

Is X a student - yes/no?
Is his/her GPA high enough for the program - yes/no?

Colleges can answer these questions, but they wouldn't give anything more specific than that. The only reason they would answer the GPA question is because it's an internship program.

ok but I wonder if they call your job...?

I highly doubt they contact any employers.

I read in the invitation packet that Disney will yield to your school's classification of "student in good standing"; in my school, it's a 2.5 GPA and no registration holds or discipline records. You also have to be a sophomore or better to participate in an off-campus experience. Naturally, I went straight to the internship office on campus to make sure all was good, and the director said that Disney had already emailed her about me and she gave the go-ahead. So just three days after I accepted the invitation, Disney was already checking my school eligibility. Guess this means that the last hurdle was jumped! :woohoo:

According to the packet, Disney will rescind their invitation if your school says that they don't want you to participate, for whatever reason that may be.

I asked my interviewer when she called, and she said that while they take previous work experience very seriously when you apply, Disney does not call individual employers, and my managers heard nothing.

They use previous work experience more to help them determine possible locations more than anything else.

for example, if someone applies for hospitality or concierge and they have had experience working in higher end hotels, then they know that they could place them in the grand floridian or any of the other deluxe resorts and the person would already be somewhat familiar with the types of guests they will be dealing with. if someone has experience working with children/families then they may lean towards putting them in the magic kingdom. if someone has experience working in a store that does a very large volume of transactions, then they may look at placing them in a merch location that tends to do more business than some others.

of course, this isn't always the case, but this is one of those things that they look at more once they know that you would make a good cast member and they start narrowing down the role that they want to offer and eventually where they are going to place you.
