Wait a second there is hand scooped ice cream at Cabanas?

I just read this in a trip report, how did we miss the hand scooped ice cream at Cabanas lunches? Ok probably because we either sleep in and eat breakfast at 10am and just snack around the pool for lunch or are on a Port Adventure and miss lunch aboard I'd guess.

Please tell me more about this hand scooped ice cream. Flavors? Hard or soft? Any good?

As I recall it’s usually like three flavors, Vanilla, Chocolate and a random flavor. It was hard as opposed to soft ice cream which you get out on deck.

We like the hand-scooped ice cream at Cabanas! On our recent cruise, they had chocolate, vanilla, butter pecan, mint chocolate chip, cookies-n-cream, dulce de leche................. there may have been additional flavors, but we didn't get it every day.

It took me 5 cruises to know about it. We were on the Fantasy last Jan. and they had some toppings each day to go with the ice cream, one day they had warm brownies.

A cm will scoop it for you, you can see it as you walk by it. On the Fantasy you just keep walking past all lunch selections and then you get to it before you get to the other side where the same food selections are, I hope that makes sense.

It is by the desserts at cabanas on the fantasy. It is scooped by a cast member.

On our WBPC this past Feb they had hand scooped ice cream at the Pirate Buffet also at Cabanas..

It is at the end of the buffet and my go-to place for mint chocolate chip They usually have that in addition to 3 others.

It is right next to the hot dessert they offer everyday, like bread or rice pudding, or a cobbler. They also have NSA Vanilla.

Techically you won't "see" the ice cream, because it is in a below counter-height freezer so it's covered by a large rectangular metal sliding door - but there will be signs telling you what flavours. I want to say there was more than just plain vanilla and chocolate but all I can remember right now is dulce de leches! And yes it's right at the dessert section. This was on the Magic. [was it my trip report? I can't even remember if I mentioned this, but I wanted to!]

We actually preferred the soft serve on deck. I found the hard ice cream flavours in Cabanas to be a bit bland - more sweet taste than flavour. That's not to say I necessarily passed it by and didn't have any. Just that I prefer the soft serve. When you're in Cabanas and it's right there, well, what are you gonna do?

lol same here.. 8 cruises and never seen it...
I guess I'll add another 5-10 lbs on each of my next cruises as I love hard ice cream -any flavor - as opposed to the eye scream station which is really bleh for me.
