The kids like using fanny packs when we're traveling, unfortunately the otherwise great packs we got them last time (Everest Junior size) had a fatal design flaw - the clasp is one way only, but it goes in the wrong way without any resistance and gets permanently jammed. Unless we want to loosen the straps and tighten them back up again every time the kids take them on or off, they're stuck. (If anyone knows of a tutorial for removing the old buckles and replacing them, I might reconsider Everest, otherwise they were great.)

So, can anyone suggest packs for kids? Definitely waist packs or possibly sling bags because they have to take backpacks off to get what they want and they get hot during the day.

Can you exchange the buckles? I know REI carries replacement buckles. I imagine most major retailers too (Gander Mountain, Dicks, etc). We usually buy our fanny, day and back packs through REI because they have such a huge assortment of styles, sizes, etc for every member of family.

I'll check out REI, 2Gma. The buckles on these were sewn and the webbing is possibly melted or glued at one point, so I'm not sure how readily I could replace them.
