Cooler months, I use a Herschel 15 waist pack and use a carabiner for my silicone water bottle. The Herschel can hold my iPhone, portable charger, small makeup bag, small hand sanitizer and my card carrier/wallet. My bottle is only a 16oz bottle so it's not very heavy. In the summer months my water bottle is too large to keep on a waist pack and I bite the bullet and carry the backpack. Plus I trade on and off with my husband so it's got several bottles. Sweat is already all over me so having a sweaty back is of no consequence to me. LOL. I keep my backpack light and use my under armor bag with only one pocket and side water bottle carrier to get through security faster. Fewer pockets to zip so less hassle.
Look at runner waist packs. I doubt many hold large water bottles but maybe they stretch out.
