What's the going pay for say grocery store cashiers?
Or Walmart or SuperWalmart?

I've been thinking that if DH does get deployed (we'll know for sure next month I think), that maybe I would get myself a small part time job just to keep my mind off things. We have some new stores just starting to be built now and another later this year. No ads in paper yet for help.

I've got service desk & front end manager experience, but don't want responsiblities more than just a cashier for now. Been there, done that. I also only want a few hours / week. Not looking to be tied down to a job incase I need to head to parents house for elder issues.

I had thought about getting back into banking maybe, but not looking for that kind of profession again right now. I might slip back into my manager role too easily and bring the stress back. :rotfl:

Also, not looking to put us into the next tax bracket again.

I know. So many "wants". LOL Like its so easy to just go out there and find a job today. I keep seeing help wanted signs everywhere though. I don't need the paycheck like others do who have been laid off. It would be just a job to get me out of the house and with other people if DH is gone for a year.

There's plenty of places who would love people like you to volunteer....schools, hospitals, food pantries, libraries...the list is endless.

I'll keep that in mind. I was hoping for some pay though. I have a trip I would like to take next year and would feel better if I contributed to it rather than using DH's pay for the trip. I know it sounds odd. We don't separate our money. But it seems wrong to me to take his pay that he's risking his life for to go on a vacation without him. KWIM?

If he's here, then we are both going. I really wish he would be here. Going alone doesn't sound as enjoyable. Its for a gathering, so it can't be postponed till he gets back.

It probably depends on the locality. DD19 worked a register at Meijer and made $8.00/hour here in Louisville. My niece, who lives in a small town, makes about $6.50.

I know what you mean about wanting some money. I volunteer several times a week at my son's school, and it would be nice to get something, although they're always very appreciative. I think cashiers get paid around $8-$10 per hour. I can imagine it would be very helpful to have a regular schedule and a place to be if DH has to go...I hope he doesn't! Has he been already?

Here its about $7 to start. When I worked at Lowes Foods the baggers started at $6.50 and depending on experience cashiers started between $7 and $8. It can be a little higher depending on the store. For example our Kohl's here starts at $8.50.

If you have any office skills at all I suggest looking at a part time office asst position. You're not on your feet all day long, the pay is typically higher, and you don't have to deal with customers and uniforms.

How about a substitute in a school cafeteria? A substitute hall monitor? Or a substitute aide on a handicapped school bus? With any of them you would make a little money and still have the option of turning down days that aren't convenient for you..:goodvibes
