Oh good! A waffle maker thread! I was thinking about starting one for recommendations. I didn't know there already was one. I should have known the DIS would already have one.
I haven't eaten pancakes/waffles in a long time as they are too high I carbs. But, I found a high protein pancake/waffle mix that truly does NOT spike my blood sugar levels, especially as I have it with
Cary's sugar free syrup, too
. The pancake/waffle mix is the Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes pancake and waffle mix. I've tried the Buttermilk, Dark Chocolate and the Pumpkin Flax flavors. Love them all.
I dug out an old waffle maker I had in storage. It's horrible. It's an Oster. The plates are raised yet unremovable. There's openings all around the plates, so when I wash it, water gets inside underneath, no matter how careful I am. I'm afraid of electrocuting myself if there is water still inside near the wires the next morning.

It needs to be washed, not just wiped down, as I'm messy and accidentally slosh batter over the sides.
Also, like a PP said, it really doesn't get hot enough to crisp up the waffles. The last time I made waffles, I ended up placing them in the toaster oven to finish crisping up. That's ridiculous to be doing double procedures making waffles.
