We are on the fourth floor at VWL and they are changing the corridor carpet today. I love the pinecone carpet and I don't think I am going to like the new stuff in the hallway. Looks like an Indian blanket (but it has a very tiny moose at each end). Since the villa carpet is coordinated with the hallway carpet, I'm gonna bet that the villas are going to get this new stuff, too. More lighter shades in the new carpet to show wear and dirt.

The hallway carpet on this floor still looks really nice. I don't understand why my member fees are going to replacing good carpet.

If it is part of the renovation, I'm not looking forward to what they will do with the villas.

I really really love the hallway carpets. The villas, not so much. They are in desperate need of replacement. Our last unit had several "rolls" in the carpet. I am REALLY PRAYING they change the couch design in the studios! :goodvibes

Are you talking about the VWL sleeper sofas? Because they are the most comfortable for sitting of all the sofas. BLT are terrible for sitting, OKW are terrible for sitting.

And I love the VWL carpet in the villas - the pinecones match the hallway. Or they did until today.

Well put me in the category of any change would be an improvement. The VWL have my least favorite decor.

Sorry Deb, but it has always given me a headache to even look at it. :headache:

I love the look of the new Lodge rooms, I was hoping they would follow that design.

Well, I bought VWL because it reminded me of Yellowstone, not the Grand Canyon or the pueblos of Arizona. The new carpet in the hallway doesn't really go very good with the corridor wallpaper. They will have to change that, too, I guess.

I too love the pine ones in the hallway carpets and would love that design in my home. Why couldn't they just change the carpets in the villas or maybe change to new laminate floors like OKW. I too wonder why my dues are going to pay for carpet that really didn't need replacing.

Yeah the sleep sofas. I don't care for the pattern they chose. Couldn't they just recover them, not replace them? I also love what's been done over in the main lodge as far as the room renovations go. I am also ready for the duvet's, the VWL bedspreads can also go!

If the sofas are in good shape it is possible they will simply redo them, as they did at SSR.

Ooh I actually like that carpet. If that's the one they are putting in.

Nope, not the same carpet. There is one room (a lockoff two bedroom) in the middle of the hallway that has also had a lot of action going on (the new carpet is outside that villa). Coming back from the Half Marathon this morning, there were some workmen in the villa with the door open. New flooring in this villa - laminate in the hallway and rest of the living area. Of course, I couldn't see the bedroom. Just a glimpse of the room. It looks like they are also repainting the doors on the outside as well.

Laminate!!! :scared1:

So does it seem more like this could be a test room for new decor like they did at OKW?

The studio connected to the one bedroom also has laminate flooring. so no carpet at all maybe, just an area rug?? They are still working on these rooms, so I'll continue to write up what I see. We did also notice that they are changing out the corridor wallpaper under the wood rail. It used to be a brownish floral pattern and is now a brownish leaf pattern. Not as pretty. And it doesn't really go well with the hallway carpet.

They also painted both doors green instead of one red and one green.

Oh YUCK! I hate the new OKW flooring. The only good thing about it is that it is easy to clean. Of course, that doesn't mean housekeeping knows how to do it though!

Since I live in a lodge though, I do think "wood" floors are a better lodge look than that carpet pictured in the link to the new regular Lodge rooms. Sorry, but that looks more like a weak attempt to " faux lodge look" the Contemporary.

For those of us with allergies the laminate may be a better option. We just got back from a Christmas stay in a VWL studio and I noticed the rug was really used and I think caused me to take Benadryl a couple of nights. My hope is that the laminate will eliminate that issue but as Diane said they need to clean it right. Keep us posted Deb and Bill.:)

I'm still thinking they are changing the focus of Wilderness Lodge from the great timber lodges of the NW (think Teddy Roosevelt and the Railroad barons) to a native American theme like the Grand Canyon. I don't recall seeing any timber lodges at the Grand Canyon, but I have been to Old Faithful Lodge, Timberline Lodge, East Glacier Lodge, Lake McDonald Lodge. In otherwords, gentile Easterners on a rugged western vacation (think late 1800's and early 1900's).

Even the bus plays native American flute type music when you are headed to WL/VWL. They should be playing "I've Been Working on the Railroad".

I think WL/VWL has always had this dual theming going on. The music piped in is definitely a mix of Western and native American..."How the West was Won" and "Silverado" along with "Dances with Wolves".

And the two large totem poles in the grand lobby as well as the native American headdress and other artifacts have always had a strong nod to that part of the theming.

And of course, the character totem pole in front of the Mercantile store. :)

Not to mention the teepee chandeliers in the lobby.

So any "move" towards native American theming would not really be much of a stretch. But the stone and timber look of the Lodge and VWL aren't going anywhere soon, and those are definitely a tip of the cap to the great lodges of the Northwest.

I'm okay with change...I don't expect everything to stay the same during my 40 years of DVC ownership. It doesn't sound like this change is going to be all that bad. I'd be more concerned about whether they use quality materials that will hold up well than the design itself.
