VWL Studio -- Thoughts?

So tell me about the VWL Studio.

I'm debating between the VWL Studio and a Garden Wing Room at the CR.

They are the same price, but I tend to like the decor at the WL better. However, I've never set foot in a DVC resort.

Thoughts? suggestions?

hi, We have stayed at the WL several times in a studio and loved it. How many people are in your party. Remember a studio has a queen bed and a sleeper sofa. It was only DH and myself so that was fine. We love having a sofa to sit on to relax instead of a bed to watch tv. Also having the small refrig and microwave is nice. The atmosphere is great, very relaxing and quiet, very close to the buses and a short walk to the boat ramp. Just remember there is not daily mousekeeping, only on the 4th day. Whatever you choose,have fun. patsy

Assuming the original poster is a CASH guest - since he's considering the Contemporary as well, he absolutely WILL have daily housekeeping.

I'd consider the size of the party. For a couple, the VWL studio would be fine. For a couple with a kid or 2, the much larger garden wing room at the Contemp would be better. The studio would have a microwave & extra sink, but the Contemp would have everything else in terms of the kitchenette area.

Our CR Wing room had two queen beds and one day bed. The VWL studio has one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa. The VWL studio does not have the same decor as the WL room - no flat screen TV for one. The VWL was opened about six years ago and has not been renovated at this time.

If you decide to go with the studio, one thing we have always liked about VWL is that there are drawers in the kitchen area where you can put bagels, breakfast bars, etc. and free up some counter space.

I last stayed at the CR in 1991 and don't remember much about it. I'm sure it's changed quite a bit since then anyway so I'm no help there!

If transportation ease is an issue, I would go with the Contemp. The buses can sometimes be a hassle at WL.

Although I love VWL and the transportation there as well, we stayed there this summer, and after staying in a studio in all of the other DVC properties, I doubt we will do a studio at VWL again.. it was really small, and felt small. Also, there are few hooks or ranks to hang and put things. The only thing i did like were the drawers in the kitchinette area. I know that this will put me in flames but just my opinion!

I've stayed in both and like them each for different reasons. As others said, the size of your party makes a difference.

We like the CR for the ability to walk to MK. We found the room cramp once all were there, especially with a stroller and P&P up. You can't compare the kitchenette at the WLV to the small frig and coffee pop offered at the moderates and delux resorts. At the villas, the studios have a nice set up with a built in microwave, toaster, mugs and paper products, plasticwear and other necessities. It has a larger frig with a freezer compartment and cabinets above to store things. Plus there is a list of items you can get in addition to what is there...like a blender!!

We like having one bed for the two of us and having all of the extra room since we don't use the sofa bed. We like the WLV because it is small and intimate. Often zipping out the back door to go right to the quiet pool or health club. When we miss the CR, we just catch the boat shuttle over to the CR to dine there or over to Ft. Wilderness to eat at Trails End. We like having access to WCC for breakfast and at the WLV you have a small QS location.

However, if they ever built a DVC at the CR, I'll be one of the first in line!

OKW and SSR are both less expensive than VWL. SSR is right next to DTD. OKW has great views of the golf course and a boat ride away from DTD.
