Thanks so much for all of your wonderful suggestions! We are definately doing Hoop De Doo! We have heard so many wonderful things about it! Does anyone know if you can be the flag family while staying at the villas? Also, does anyone have info on carriage rides or hay rides ??? :bounce:

We've never been the flag family, but I have read on this board that you should ask about it at check-in and if a morning is available during your stay - you're in!!! I don't think anyone has ever mentioned requesting it ahead of arrival - but I could be wrong.

You cannot request flag family ahead of time. We tried, we were there for my son's birthday and called ahead to ask, and we were told it was not possible. Of course the first opening available when we checked in was for the day after we left.

We have been lucky enough to be flag family twice now. It was a unique experience. Both time we were able to do it were on a 9 night trip and even then it was only at the very end of our stay. Our last trip in Feb. I asked about the flag family and the CM said, "I'll see if they have checked in yet, are they at the lodge or the villas?" I then explained about the flag family program, and she had never heard of it(she was new). We were eventually able to sign up!

About the carriage or hay rides, they are offered over at the Fort Wilderness campground. The carriage ride is $30 for a half-hour ride. It can fit up to 4 adults, or the driver said 2 adults and 3 kids. You can make ressies by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. The carriage ride was fabulous, we have ressies for another in July. I would reccomend calling, the evening we went on the ride, I heard 3 couples ask the driver, and he stated he had no openings left. The hay rides are, I think, $7 for adults and $4 for kids and is a 45 minute ride. You cannot make ressies for those, I was told it is first come- first served. We have not done a hay ride yet, but hope to soon. Have Fun!

hay rides, carrige rides, horse back riding, hoop-dee-doo, etc information can be answered on the DIS Camoing at Disney forum. Just use your drop down menue on the bottom of the page

When have never asked to be the flag family, however, we have discussed it may try for our upcoming stay. We did the hay ride on the 4th of July and it was awsome! They take you back by Bay Lake and you sit and watch the fireworks and they even piped in music! It was awesome! Have a great time on your trip!:Pinkbounc

...and lots of it. It is lots of fun. They pipe music in from Fantasy in the Sky, and you can enjoy it from across Bay Lake. All the enjoyment without the crowds. Just remember the repellent; the mosquitoes are vicious this time of year.

If so, what is the discount?

Where/when do you made reservations in order to get the discount? We are hoping to stay at VWL in March 2004 (just waiting for the 7 month window to open). Thought we might go while we are there.

Thanks!
DJ

I believe that I read that the DVC discount is only offerred for the 5:30 show of HDD

I just booked Hoop de doo through member services. The DVC discount is 20% off at the 9:30 show. With five adults it saved me fifty dollars. Just call member services and listen for the dining option, it's the same cm's that take your DVC reservations and do banking of points. I hope you enjoy the show, my DW and I try going every time we are at WDW, we love it. Corny but fun.:D

What is the "Flag Family" and what does it involve? I have been reading the boards for awhile, but haven't come across this perk.
Is it a perk? I don't know.

Thanks

I believe anyone staying in either the villas or main lodge can ask to be flag family. Ask at check-in for next available date. A family(up to 6 people) meet in the lobby in the morning. A cast member takes you up to the top of the lodge and you help raise the flags on the roof of the lodge. If it is a clear day you can see all of the parks(I think). Anyway you can see a long way!

Our experience has been that the list is long and the next opening was at the end of our stay.

It is a unique experience!

Thank you so much for the info. I have never heard of this and I am quite in tuned with alot of stuff at Disney. You see....you learn something new everyday!

Just curious though. If when you check in and no time is available can you place your name on the list for future visits that are planned?
