Hi.

We're going to VWL in Feb for two nights. What type of room location request do you recommend?

Do all studios have two queen beds or do some have a queen and a pull-out? Thank you in advance.

Hi, poj7. I would recommend asking for the pool/lake side of the resort. Some views here will a woods/lake view, and others may overlook the quiet pool.

All studios will have the pull out sofa instead of the second bed.

You will enjoy VWL!

I would also recommend the request "near elevators", since the rooms with the less desirable view are the ones farthest from the elevators down that long, lonely wing.

We love the pool/bay view at VWL. At night, it's so beautifully lit, and the electric lanterns intentionally flicker as if they were candles. It's also a nice to view the EWP from, too.

Enjoy!! :)

I agree with is if you want a pool view, but my favorite views are far from the elevators on the lake side of the resort. It is a 'true wilderness view', where no civilazation can be seen.
It is all personal preference...

I would just add that VWL is not a very big resort, so none of the rooms really constitutes a really long walk from the elevators.

I guess everything is relative. If you're at the end of the hall, it seems like a long way. If you were in a hall twice as long, but in the middle of it (so the same distance as the first example), it wouldn't seem like as long of a walk.

I think you've gotten some good advice on what to ask for. As nearly as I can tell, VWL is the one WDW DVC resort where the vast majority of the views are the same....woods! :)

Hey Paul! We are just back for the Lodge and we loved it! I bet your family will too. We were in studio #2542, about half way down the long hall, facing front. THe rooms in the 10's and 20's are close to the Lodge/lobby and the 30's -50's are down a long hallway. Our #42 was about halfway down, not a bad walk at all. We had a nice little balcony (they are all the same on this "front" side, I think) and a nice view of a grassy area and a path. Really quiet. I believe now that it is probably pretty hard to get a "bad" room, as long as you don't get the highest number (60?) which looks at the trash processing area at the far end of the building. I saw workers driving little carts in that direction all the time, and thought "Boy I am glad I am not in that dumpster-view room!"

ALSO: As you have children, a good request would be "non-handicapped." Our original assignment was a handicapped room and I did ask to be moved. There is little storage and everything is laid out differently. The bathroom is one big room, not a separate toilet/tub and then sink area. There is no bathtub for the children. The kitchenette was different. Overall, a handicapped studio is much less functional for a family.

The dumpster view room is 56 or higher. Last year we had 5556 and we were so far above it that it didn't matter. This year we got to VWL at 9:15 and I said to DH I bet our room wasn't ready. Well, I went to bell services to get my DVC card out of my carryon luggage and when I got back he said it was. Was it the lake/water view I asked for 11 months ago? No, it was 3556--exactly two floors down from last year at the very end of the hall.
Now in truth the actual dumpster was off to the side a bit and we aren't big balcony sitters at VWL and the rest of the view is fine. But I think the desk woman thought she was being nice by giving us an available room because at first she said it wasn't ready, then she said it was. Wonder who ended up in my lake/water view room! Next time DH can go watch TV with the kids while I check in.

Last month we stayed in 4549 - a two dedicated two bedroom, but there were studios/lock offs on both sides of us. This unit faced the lake, but the view was of the woods. If you stood on the balcony and looked left, you could see the quiet view. Looking right, though, I don't remember seeing the infamous dumpsters. I was surprised that we didn't see any wildlife from this unit - we stayed in the Lodge on our last trip, with a view of the smokehouse and maybe dumpsters, too (we didn't care - we could see the MK fireworks!) but there was a man made pond and lots of bunnies, coons, etc. running around. Anyway, VWL 5459 was a good distance from the elevators - more than half way down the hall. DH kept saying that it reminded him of The Shining. The walk didn't bother us, we just hope our 4 yr. old and 18 mo. old racing to the room from the elevator didn't bother everyone else - that long straight hallway was way too tempting for them.

Here is a link with some room reports and it will give you some view comments. http://members.aol.com/InstImpres/wildernesslodge
As others have said, asking for a specific room and getting it is slim. This will give you an idea of “sectional views”.

(You may also want to check it at again over the weekend. I just returned and have a lot of reports that were sent to me to update)

Enjoy your trip,
Sandy

Can someone tell me the difference between a lockoff studio and a dedicated studio? Does anyone have any pictures?

I will ask for this true wilderness view, when I check in. Which isn't until January. We will be celebrating our 21 Wedding Anniversary that month. Sure hope we can get it. Sounds like a great romantic peaceful view.

Spread some pixie dust my way.

The dedicated is just that, it can only be used as a studio. The lockoff has a "connecting door" to a 1 bedroom. In some resorts it matters (BWV offers day bed for a small child in BWV) but I don't think there is a big difference in VWL. Some people have reported lockoffs to be noiser but personally, I think that is luck of the draw on who your neighbors are;)

Happy travels

July...as you can see (VWL is the red roof part), virtually all of the rooms at VWL provide the "true wilderness view". If you ask for that at check-in, I'm sure you will see a very puzzled CM. :p

The VWL dedicated studio DH and I had last trip was a bit larger than the lock-off and it had two nice size closets, one by the bathroom area and one by the door.
Thought I'd share some additional info.

July,
I can tell from your counter that you will be at VWL at the same time we will be there. Our first trip to VWL also! Let's hope we both love our views.
P.S. Some say the 5th floor rooms with vaulted ceilings are really nice.

Very observant of you. I like your picture. Maybe I will see you there.
I hope I get a great room and like the view too!
I hope you do too!
This is only our second trip on DVC points.
Oops I take that back.
I just made reservations to go to Boardwalk on Sept. 16 for only 1 night. So that will be our second trip.
Wilderness will be our 3rd.

:D
I have to use one more day on my Play 4 pass before Sept 30.
We don't think we will do the AP until next year.

July,
You are lucky to have a September "appetizer" to tide you over until January. The countdown clocks are a mixed blessing because they sometimes seem to take forever! Enjoy BWV and see you in January??
