VWL Refurb

I heard that, due to strong guest demand, it will be rethemed from lodges of the West to malls of the West. So expect a San Fernando Valley vibe.

It sounds like a great tie-in with the new Pleasure Island theme! :woohoo:

Does anyone remember how long it took them from start to finish for BCV? Just would like a time frame of when it may be ready.

Again, it depends upon the nature of the rehab, which really hasn't been defined.

DVC resorts are on a repeating cycle of getting new carpet, new paint, new furniture (sofabeds) and appliances, etc. These types of changes are largely invisible since maintenance can work on rooms in small blocks. DVC maintains ownership around 4% at all resorts to accommodate these maintenance needs. A 4% maintenance allocation means that each room can be out of service for up to 2 weeks per year. In theory, this means that each DVC resort should be intentionally underbooked by a couple of rooms every single night so that needed repairs can be made.

If this VWL rehab is similar to what is described above, most guests will never know it is happening. And, while the rehabbed rooms will look fresher (new paint, etc.), the style of the furnishings will be identical to the pre-rehab look.

That said, it is POSSIBLE that the rehab will include things like new flat panel TVs and armoires. But there's no precedent for making that assumption. OKW is about 10 years older than VWL and it has not yet seen such upgrades. Picking VWL as the first recipient of such upgrades would make for a curious choice.

We talked with a VWL manager about a year ago and they were hoping to have new carpet and some new sleeper couches. Maybe that's what this is.

Tim...I only mentioned the flat screen televisions since I think this is the first resort rehab since they put those in AKV. Personally, I couldn't care less if they keep the current televisions.

I agree with others that upgrading the sofa/sleeper is long overdue at VWL. Is it the last DVC resort at WDW to get that particular upgrade?

Good point. The flat panel TVs are inevitable. I wonder if they would put the TVs in the current armoires, or just hold off until they are ready to replace all of those cabinets, too. My biggest fear is that Disney has been stockpiling all of the older standard def TVs they are pulling out of the refurbished Deluxe resorts, and will keep sticking those in the DVCs for the next 10 years. :headache:

I wish they'd had the foresight to put flat panel TVs in the last phase of SSR. Those rooms were just completed in the last 14 months. Hard telling how long they might wait before upgrading now.

It must be. I didn't even realize VWL had not gotten the new sofabeds yet. It seems like they began appearing in the other DVCs shortly after they debuted at SSR. That was over 4 years ago now.

WDad...thanks for posting the notice. I agree that it would be nice to update the sleeper/sofas as well as get the flat screen tv's. Beyond that, I hope they don't mess with the decor. Even the ugly black & white chair can stay! :)

Me too! I like the way the VWL rooms look.
I used to love the decor of the WL rooms but the last total refurb of those rooms are not very appealing. Some nice little touches, such as woodland creatures on the headboard, but the colors (expecially the curtains) just doesn't seem to be a well coordinated as before. I even noticed the new paint job on the closet and bathrooms doors was careless and it looks "repainted" now.

And to think people get paid big bucks to come up with these designs...and they get approvals!
:scared1:

Change isn't always good.

flat panel tvs would be swell;)

hope they keep the overall theming:thumbsup2

wonder if they r sprucing things up specifically to compete with BLTpopcorn::

We were just there last week and they were removing some of the stonework from the exterior of the building near the pool bar - sorry can't remember the name of it. They took it down to raw wood. There was scaffolding around that entire corner of the building up to the 2nd floor. Maybe water damage? Just thought I would mention it.

Uuggh.....I'm finally going home to WLV....I hope it does not have a lot of scaffolding:headache:
A new sofabed would be :worship: Since we WILL be using it.

Has there been any time table that abyone has found out about? :confused3

Disney Daddy reported last week that they were at VWL and there seemed to be a lot of work being done on the 5th floor...which was closed off to the public.

VWL Refurb?

So it sounds like it is getting a pretty good overhaul right now.

Ok...MS says WL is getting a "full" rehab.....carpet, furniture....etc.

The 5th floor is scheduled to be finished on 10-12....This is the day I check in....I'm hoping for a 5th floor rehabbed room:worship:

They are then going to the 2nd floor....and working their way up.....He didn't mention the 1st floor...maybe they did that:confused3

anyhoo....Kind of dissapointed....I really try to avoid place with an active rehab going on.....But I'm hoping for the best:goodvibes

Probably about April....guessing here about 6 weeks per floor.
