Just back tonight from WDW. Stayed 2 nights at OKW and 3 at VWL. OKW is just another awesome option for DVC. The 2BR was huge-2nd floor just across the bridge from the main pool area. A great spot at no request except nonsmoking. The deck looked over the golf cousre and was really private-very few golfers either. Olivias was very good and widley priced-really was necessary since there was not a lot right there for food. We now look at this resort as our "laid back option" when we need a more peacefull vacation (plus a nice change of scenery)-although VWL was very quiet also. Had room 4511 over the pool at VWL-looks out on the lake also-a great 2BR. VWL was as usual a great stay also.

I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed OKW. Personally, I believe the diversity of the various WDW DVC sites is one of the major advantages of this program. I don’t get the threads that compare and rate DVC properties. As far as I am concerned, all are good in their differences. (I’m sounding like an “up with people” song) During a single vacation, we have moved from one site to another, and felt like we had two vacations in one.

Are home resort is also VWL - but we love OKW sooo much we are pursueing an add on through resale - so far we LOVE DVC!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We are also VWL owners and loved our stay in May at OKW so much that we are in the middle of doing an add-on there through DVC. :) We now own the best of both worlds!

I would like some information on your room at VWL. Was it a dedicated 2 bedroom-did it have 2 queen beds in the 2nd bedroom or a bed and sleeper sofa? How much of the lake could you see? Could you see anything across the lake from your room. I have a dedicated 2 bedroom in March 2003 and wondered if I should request the room you had. Thanks for any information.

I'm wondering, why are you specifically doing your add-on at OKW? We're also owners at VWL who fell in love with OKW on our first visit. However, we're under the impression that the 7-month window at OKW will always get us a room there, and so we don't feel the need to do an add-on there. I must admit, though, it would be real nice to say we're owners there and I can certainly understand if you say that that's the reason you want to add on there. But I'm concerned about whether it might be the need for that 11-month window for ressies. Is it?

Simba's Mom,

Yes, usually availabiliy at OKW in the 7 month window is not a problem. So, if you want to trade into OKW occasionally, an add-on at OKW is not neccesary.

There are 3 reasons that I can think of to do an OKW add-on, assuming that you want more points than you have and you want to stay at OKW more than occasionally:

1) 11 month window for an OKW GV

2) Great deals on OKW resales (There are more OKW resales at lower $$ b/c more owners, longer ownership (change in life cycle), and probably bought in at a lower price so can sell for less and even make some $$)

3) Lower maintenance costs per point. If you want to stay at OKW anyways, why pay the higher dues elsewhere to trade in?

IMHO, OKW is beautiful and worth an add-on. That's why we own at BWV & OKW! :p

Great thinking! I also fell in Love with this resort on this past stay . Dh has always Loved it. (golfer) But after staying there for 10 days made me realize just how relaxing it is there.

Our family had 3 WL vacations under our belt when they announced VWL. DW and I both were extremely skeptical about any form of timeshares, but loved WL so much that as a test we booked a week vacation cash in a 2bdr at OKW in order to try a DVC resort. What better one to try than the Original!

Well, what can I say but WOW. I don't think we really needed to take the sales tour for VWL (when it was at BW). We bought on that trip and are probably going to add on next year.

OKW knocked our socks off with, service, rooms, Olivia's and staff.
That experience is what sold us on DVC, and the same experience with VWL is what will sell us on more ownership in DVC.

Same here, looking for the right resale at OKW.

OK, you all have done an excellent job of convincing me that an add-on at OKW is worth looking in to since DH saw OKW as something more than an occassional trade-into, more like "We'll always stay here!" (BTW, he's a golfer too). So now what? For a less-than-100 point add-on, is there a waiting list at DVC or what? If so, about how long might it take? Or are there ever resales for that small an amount or only for the 150 point minimum?

We are in the process of buying 80 points at OKW through DVC. We were offered any amount up 250, so we chose enough to get a week in a studio each year or a week in a one-bdrm every other year. We have an August use year and were on the waiting list for approx. 1-1/2 months when we got the call. I know others have been waiting longer due to having different use years.

HTH!

I too am curious about that room (4511, you say?) at VWL!

Is it a 2br dedicated (with 2 queen beds in 2nd br) ?

I think you already said it was non-smoking...

We are headed to VWL for a 2br-dedicated in just 2 weeks... sure would be nice to have a "number" in mind (and to toss out to the reservations folks) prior to getting there!

I wonder at what # do the "close to the pool / elevator" rooms begin and and what number does view turn into woods (and the walk gets long....)

Maybe when I go, I'll find out and report back!

there are just a few rooms maybe 4 (could be more or less) that have the pool view on each floor

the view you want to avoid is not the woods view - but the service building (as far from the elevators as you can get) - also the even walk from the bad view is not bad - this is not BWV - nothing is far away.

Simba's Mom,

I have seen 150 point resales on here(Timeshare Store). Just be patient and until then keep booking the 7 month window. Gosh I hope not everyone does an add on for OKW. I don't want it to get too hard to get 7 months out. We just added on BCV. I can't afford any more. lol

Have a Disney Day!

Sorry I took so long to respond-really busy back at work. Anyway 4511 had as good of a view of the lake as you could get I thought. You could see the night lake parade go buy but it is really only a smallish view of the lake. It did have 2 queens in the studio side which was great for the kids to sleep in.

Oh yea I forgot, our room was ready at 1PM if we wanted the area near the trash pickup (he didnt use those exact words). When I told him everyone on the chat line said that was noisy from trash pickup, he said hold on and I will go in back and check for other rooms. He comes back and says 4511 is ready now also. This tells me that your rooms are not set ahead of time, (unless they are full) and they give a try at getting rid of the "undesireable" room when possible.
