VWL - Flag Family

We are taking our first trip to VWL in October (woohoo - 102 days to be exact ) and I have a few goofy questions (just joined DVC this year and this will be our second DVC trip).

When you check in for VWL do you go into the main WL check-in area? Can you ask to be the Flag Family if staying at in the Villas or is that only for WL guests? Are the pillows/bedding at VWL the same as in WL? We love the pillows at WL so I need to know if I need to bring mine from home.

Check in for the villas is the same place as for WL. And yes, you can be the Flag Family if staying at the villas. We did this several years ago, the view from up there is amazing. Ask about it when you check in!!

I can verify that the pillows at VWL Rock! Last time we visited I fell in love with the pillows, took off the case and wrote down the name and bought 2!

I have a friend that just got back this past week and they were the Flag Family one day. So they are still doing it.

Ranger Stan in June, confirmed too us that he is still doing Flag Family, Wed thru Sat. If any of these days work out for you, go for it! But if not, Im sure one of the other Rangers do this. Be sure to go to Guest Relations and sign up for this as it tends to fill up fast. And be flexible with your days. You have to be in the lobby by 8am. Usually it starts at 8:15 and you are done by 9. Take your camera! You can see the whole World from up there. You raise 5 flags. Have Fun. We will be there from Oct 14-26. Cant wait! 3 Mos, 7 days and 1 hr.

When we asked, we were told there was a limit to the number in the family. There are 5 in DS's family, and I forget the exact answer, but I'm pretty sure that I couldn't join them. Does anyone know the number that can be in the flag family.

I know the 1st time we did it, it could only be four. But on our 3rd time, I told them my mom and dad would be with us, which would have been 6 altogether. I thought DW and I could sit it out and let my folks take the kids with them up on the roof. But Guest Relations didnt have a problem with it. I could imagine they may have a limit so not so many kids are up there at one time, for safety reasons.

You are correct. It is a chance thing. We have found the longer our trip is, and the more flexible we can be, it tends to work out for the better.

I'm afraid that I think the internet has blown the Flag Family thing for us. We have stayed at WL/VWL six trips now, always for a week or more, and never been able to get Flag Family. For whatever reason, they are always completely booked when we try for it, which is immediately after checking in.

We'll continue to ask for it, but I'm resigned that I'll have to settle for experiencing it through others stories and pictures. It's not like it has diminished our enjoyment of this wonderful resort but we'd like to do it once.

Little "secrets" like this become widespread knowledge through the internet. That's not a bad thing, but does make it more challenging for special experiences like this.

Okay....coming out of my self pity room to wish the OP success in getting the Flag Family.
