1. I tried the search for this question, but couldn't find anything. Perhaps someone might know.

2. Is VWL located near the Wilderness Campground area? Can you walk between the two. The Campgrounds have golf carts to rent (at least the last time we were there), can these be rented by VWL guest and would there be a place to park/charge them?
Last guestion, can VWL guest use the amenities at the campground area, , , fishing, outdoor movies in the evenings, horseback, etc...

Thanks in advance. Warm Regards,

Wilderness Lodge is located near Fort Wilderness Campground, but it would be better to take a bus or a boat than to walk. The walk is a bit long. I don't believe you can drive the golf carts beyond the Campground, but here is the Campground Front Desk phone number - 407-824-2900 - they can tell you. And, you can use any of the recreational facilities at the Campground, fishing, campfire & movies, horseback, swimming pool, etc, if you are staying at Wilderness Lodge (or any other DVC resort).

We stayed in the FW Cabins a few weeks ago for 2 nights.

We rented bikes there at the FW Bike Barn, and rode them ALL over the campground. We also rode them along the dirt path along Bay Lake that takes you to WL/VWL. We parked our bikes and had drinks there at the pool bar.

They also rent bikes at WL, so you could do the same thing, there. In fact, the bikes are part of the recreation plan many have spoken of on this board.

I would definitely recommend that you (1) bring your own bikes or, (2) use the plan, as the rental rates are STEEP - $20+/bike/day (until sundown.)

We also rented a golf cart one day, and it didn't appear that you are permitted to take them to WL, and I'm "sure" there's no charging areas.

We "did" walk between the two areas, as well, and thought it was quite pleasant - not at all too long, compared to what you log in the parks!!

We really enjoyed "sporting it" on our trip to FW - it was a nice break from the parks! (and helped work off all the food from the HoopdeDoo!) :)

The walk between the WL and FtW is just under one mile. The path is not lighted and thus not a good alternative after dark.

Caskbill, one of our DVC /DIS posters took a GPS (Global Positioning System) unit to WDW and actually measured the distance of this path. He took some pictures along the way and posted them for all of us to see.

Caskbill also measured several other popular walking distances and reported the results. I often refer to his posts on the walkways and really appreciate the time he took to do us this service. Here's the link so you can see for yourself:

THANKS for the great responses. Appreciate it very much. The information on the distance, pathways etc... was extremely helpful. I got a GPS for my birthday and have used it several times to measure distance. We went to the Grand Canyon this past summer and I used it on the trails there. Thanks again for the help. The DVC group always come through. Warm Regards

the pictures and path info was great, the path between fort wilderness and the lodge area is the reason we are buying a resale at VWL, so much to do other than the parks, I walked the path 2 years ago, we were at the Contemporary, everyone left to go to the parks and I decided to stay behind with my one year old, took the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge, (not very fun trying to juggle baby and stroller - but got help!!) then walked the path over, went to the petty zoo and checked out the percheron barn, browsed through the camp store (probably the best resort store) now the baby fell asleep!!!got a cold soda and rocked on the porch near the hoop-de-doo (drawing blank on restaurant name) probably hung out there for 2 hours people watching and chatting with some very nice Canadians!!! great people. Then took the boat back to the Contemporary, probably my favorite day every at WDW!!

CarolMN, thank you so much for the kind words.

I've found that measuring the paths and making the posts is, yes, some work, but still a lot of fun. Being able to share information with other DVC'ers is very satisfying in itself.

Just a reminder, if anyone has any other 'walks' of interest besides the one's I've already completed, feel free to PM me. Maybe I can add some more to the list.
