About a month ago Disney announced a new Senior Vice President, Mr. Lewis, who would be in charge of the various DVC associations. We got to see him in action at the VWL meeting Tuesday morning. As you know the first part of the meeting is very structured (presumably to meet requirements of Florida laws); so like actors on a stage, the board members read from a script to keep on target (They finished the BOD meeting in 7 minutes). Mr. Lewis presided and showed a sense of humor. For example he gave a sigh of relief when he won reelection to head the association for the next year. In a later part of the meeting he was reading a prepared blurb on the new Saratoga Springs Resort. The writers had really laid it on and the third time it mentioned the word tranquility, he stopped and made an aside about tranquility and the next time tranquility came up he laughed. He also seemed to be a decisive leader. Later in the question portion of the meeting someone asked about posting the annual budget on the DVC web site. He immediately replied that it was a good idea and that it would be done. Mr. Lewis seems like a very warm person, and it was not difficult to see how he had come so far in the Disney organization. I think we are in good hands.

We also heard from Don, the new Manager, at Wilderness Lodge (can't remember the last name). He started his talk by telling us that they had installed additional towel racks in the studios. This was an issue at the meeting the last two years. He also had the results of those satisfaction surveys we get that showed 90% or more excellent or very good ratings on some important questions like overall satisfaction. We also talked with him after the formal meeting and got good vibes. Actually, we found all of the board members and members of the WV staff to be a friendly bunch. We arrived early and as we stood around drinking the complementary OJ and coffee, several came up to us and started a conversation. I came away with the feeling that they are working in our best interests. Don said that he read all the letters and emails we send about our stays and passes on our complements about various cast members we may write about.

I expect others to give a more detailed report on the meeting but wanted to pass on some observations on the personalities.

We were also present and I concurr with the statements of RogerB, well said. I feel we are in good hands and that the DVC leadership is listenting to us the members.

That's great to hear!

I'm glad that there is some sort of 'connection' being made between those who run the place adn those who actually let them keep their jobs. Unlike in other facets of the Disney company (ie Eisner, but we won't get into that).

Let's hope that the 'open ears policy' remains that way and that more positive changes are in the future.

Having just "purchased" (waiting ROFR) 200 points in the VWL I am happy to hear current owners are happy with the management and that they are listening. I look forward to our first visit to VWL in DEC '04 with my family and parents.
