Hi All,
I returned home thursday and this is my first day home from work since. I had a short notice trip for me and my 8 yo dd before the beginning of school planned for some great mom/dd wdw bonding and summer fun. This was the first time I was brave enough to travel without dh, but its wdw, easy to get to , easy transportation in the parks, ect.
After Charlie hit orlando, I was sad for all the devestation, but figured, lightning wouldnt strike twice, I saw Frances brewing in the caribbean, but certainly thought she would turn. Was I wrong!!
I was staying in the Wilderness Villas, and was lucky enough to be moved to a 1 br with kitchen , washer ect. which kept us comfortable for the duration of the hurricane and trip. I was scheduled to fly home sun 9/5 but the airport was closed until tuesday 9/7 and the parks were closed sat and sun 9/4 and 9/5.
I finally got a flight thursday 9/9 and my dd missed the first 3 days of school .
I do believe she got an education and experience that was more valuable then the first 3 weeks of school.
Disney had lots of entertainment in the lodge for all the energetic kids, crafts, games , energetic councelors, musicians, story tellers, characters, ect. I was not only impressed with the offerings but also with the abundant food supply, and safety preperations , sandbagging, tieing up fixtures ect. I was a bit put off when I attempted to extend my stay and had to be placed on a log but by the end of the day I was given the extention. They had to figure out where to put everyone from vero, ft. wilderness, and their own staff that would need housing. Im sure the extention log was necessary for the greater good and they didnt plan on evicting anyone, just properly placeing everyone, but this caused anxiety for some including myself. I was reassured that the priority was first folks with a confirmation, then disney resort evacuees, then current resort residents wishing to stay, then folks from the outside.
What I saw was a first. Pets in disney hotels, there were people walking dogs all over the place and barking could be heard throughout the halls. How wonderful is that of them to allow shelter for pets in a time of great need.
After the hurricane, the anxiety was over, the work and school , and airline arrangements were made, so mon tue and wed the 6th 7th and 8th we got to enjoy the empty parks , every ride, attraction and resturaunt was a walk in. (OH NO testrack 4 times in a row, not again lol) I did get sick from mission space , but my dd did that again too. We had the world to ourselves and enjoyed every minute.
I have to admit im still a bit traumatized. Baracading your glass patio door with furniture is scary.
TTFN glad to be home safe.. Felicia
