We were there last week. There are just TWO smoking 1 BR units at the VWL. They are #2540 and #2548. We arrived on Monday, and couldn't get one. I told the CM that's OK, because I knew smoking was allowed on the balcony. She said she would have an ashtray sent up. Before we reached our room, she left a phone message saying that she was wrong, and DH could NOT smoke on the balcony. While we were talking this over, we discovered an ashtray on the shelf in the living room! I called the front desk for clarification. CM Dave told me that the OFFICIAL policy at WDW Resorts is that smoking is not allowed on the balconies, but the UNOFFICIAL policy is that you can smoke there as long as no one complains. Now you know. (I think.)
