Hi everyone,

I've been reading through several threads regarding this topic and I wanted to know if anyone had recent experience using this code (good or bad).

One of the threads (from 2013ish) said this was a code for international travelers only. However, when I initially was looking for a price for a minivan, I did have the box for US RESIDENT selected.

Using this code saves us a significant amount of money, but I certainly don't want to have any issues at the counter. I know many recommend skipping the counter and going to the kiosk, but I'm not sure if I can do that as I will need to rent a car seat and add my husband to the contract.

We are both Alamo Insiders so I thought we wouldn't have to pay an additional driver fee. However, I've been reading that may be a perk of the past. Does anyone have any advice on how we can avoid paying that fee? Is that particular Insiders perk no longer available?

We definitely need a mini-van and we have a back up reservation (with no codes) already set up. But, it sure would be nice to have the extra $$$ with us on our trip.

Advice/insight/thoughts?

Thanks to everyone for reading and happy planning!! :goodvibes

YOU WILL have to pay for extra driver(s) and you will have to go to the counter to add them to the contract and pay the $$$ in my experience

Alamo got rid of a lot of perks early last year.....There is probably a trick or two to get an extra driver for $0, but if there is (and I have searched), I have not found it yet.

Insiders does not mean much anymore. Even with the various Alamo codes that I know of, it has not come close to matching what I can get with Enterprise or National (and all three are owned by the same company).

Alamo caters to the leisure crowd...for the most part, they don't have to make it easy for that market.

Any Enterprise or National codes that have worked well for you?

I just wanted to return to this thread and share my experience. I know this may not be the same for others, but I really hope there will be no flames with the information I'm sharing here.

I made two reservations at Alamo: one for me with the Vroom code and one for my husband with just our Insiders login. The price difference was SIGNIFICANT. When we arrived at the counter, I explained that I had made two reservations because I wasn't sure if I was eligible for the Vroom code (as I am a US resident). The rep told me the code was fine and there was no issue. In fact, the rep next to her said that people use it every day and he has never seen an issue with the rate being questioned. The rep then cancelled my husband's reservation and away we went. Easy peasy.

We were quite nervous about using the code since I've seen many threads (not just on Dis) about people having horrible experiences or getting flammed by others saying they are not eligible to use this particular code. In my case it was a non-issue with two different reps at the Alamo counter at MCO.

Again, I would always recommend that you have a back-up plan just in case, but it really was perfectly fine for us. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to help.

Happy hunting bargain shoppers!

Knock on wood but used it many times without issue, save a ton on rentals

I have a question about the code too. Are all these pick ups happen at the airport? I got a better deal if I take DME to DW and p/u my car at the CCC and return at the airport. That way I can p/u and drop off at the same time thus not getting an extra day added on for just having it for a few hours more than a regular week. My question is has anyone done the pickup at the CCC and did it go ok or did they give you any crap about the code not being valid or anything like that?

For Costco members, it is better to be patient and book on their travel site. I have gotten better rates through Costco than using the VROOM VROOM code. Alamo and Enterprise usually are the lowest within a few dollars of each other. You also get an additional driver at no charge through Costco.
