VRoom at Gatwick Photos and info request!

Well we have managed to get free entry to the VRoom for our upcoming trip and just wondered if anyone has used it, what they thought, exactly what food is included, and if anyone has any photos?

We used it last year, there was quite a choice of food, bacon rolls, toast, pastry's and muffins, if your early enough, the view of the runway and area's is cool but to be honest we would only use it again if it was free, I like my food but there was no way I could eat my entry fee alone. There is internet access and games room for the kids.
It's better than the departure lounge but only just, IMHO. Enjoy.

But has depressed me that this is what is being classed as the alternative for those of us who would normally use the Clubhouse during Sept-December

We have used the V-Room once and to be honest - loved it! So much so we have booked again this year. Whether or not I can eat the entrance fee is not the reason I would go. My wife and I find it relaxing away from the crowds downstairs. However, I will still do my best to eat and drink espresso and get my money's worth. Our son likes to play the playstation and as I said we like to chill. I would recommend it.

Great review Debbie. I really appreciated the detail in there (and all the lovely pictures!)

I used some Disney Maths (thanks to Wilma Bride who set such a great example to us all in the past ) to convince DH that it would be cheaper to book the V Room than not to book it. "Well, we'd all have to eat breakfast in LGW, and once I've bought a few coffees, well that almost adds up to the cost of the V Room...."

I'm not doubting that at all, but it's a less tangible way to convince Jon to flex his credit card

I'm glad you thought it was worth it, as I have read mixed reviews. I figure DDs will probably eat about 18 bacon sandwiches each so that probably makes it worthwhile anyway

use the No.1 lounge as the other alternative - the No.1 is available to UC Gold card holders. We've chosen the No.1 over the V-room, we'll see how it goes.

Automatic entry to those only with UC tickets, Virgin Gold Card flyer club, but you can also buy your way in if they have space. I've heard the cost to buy admittance is about £35 but I may be wrong - theres plenty of people on here who do that so can give you the correct info.

Beware though the Clubhouse is closed until November from now.

Originally it was only open to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold card holders flying in any class of cabin and Upper Class passengers, but for the last couple of years, you can buy entrance if you are flying with Virgin Holidays (But funnily enough not if you are flying directly with Virgin Atlantic!)

The first time we used the Clubhouse was back in 2000 - and we bought entry then. It is great there - but not anywhere as good as the Heathrow Clubhouse - though I wouldn't pay the £60 to go in there.

It will be interesting to see what the reconstruction they are doing will change the Gatwick Clubhouse to nearer the Heathrow one or not.

We really liked the V-room! There was loads of food, comfy seats, and the staff were very polite. We would definitely pay for it again if we wewren't flying from Heathrow next time!

The first time we paid to use the Clubhouse was October, 2002 and we were VA customers, not VH. We were approached whilst in the check-in line and asked if we were interested. The cost was £20 and my understanding was that it was a new trial, but from what gilld says, that can't have been true (or my memory's playing tricks on me, which is more than possible. *Insert your own geriatric smiley here*). As VA customers, we've booked it many times since (albeit never as cheaply as that first time ). Although officially it's only available to VH customers, that rule isn't enforced (at least in our experience). You do need to book via VH, but whenever we've been asked for our booking reference, we've simply said that we've booked directly with VA and no-one's ever batted an eyelid. The same may be true of the V-ROOM which we were also able to book through VH last November despite having flights only with VA. I'm about to test that theory by trying to book it for dd having booked flights with VA this morning. I'll report back.
