Hi everyone,

I would love to do a vow renewal at Disney sometime in 09. But I have no clue where to start. I did get the DVD but from what I have read it is dated. It is still the one with the wedding at MK. How far in advance do you have to do this stuff? I know you can't formally book with disney until 1 ear out right? Also all of you that have done VR do you do it on a "special anniversary"? It would only be 8 years for us but if we wait until 10 years we would have to pull 3 kids out of school. This way we would only have to pull out our oldest. Any info woudl be much appreciated. TIA

Go to the Disney wedding website. The vow renewals are basically the same as the weddings. The only difference is you bring your original marriage certificate. I don't think there is any "magic" anniversary. I think most people go with a "landmark" one, like 10, 20, or 25 years. But, hey, it's your VR, do it when YOU want it. It makes perfect sense to me to do it before all the kids are in school. Or if you want to wait until your 10th, do it during a school break or in the summer. It also doesn't HAVE to be on the same day your wedding was.

It is REALLY hard and expensive to do the MK wedding. I know some have said it is no longer an option. The last I read when we were planning our wedding was that they are now held in the Rose Garden (next to the castle) not on the castle stage. That would be something to ask your coordinator when you get to that point. I wouldn't ask too soon, in case you haven't been on here much, you will learn, Disney often changes things and the answers can vary from WC to WC.

Good luck !

You have almost the exact questions I had when first looking into doing our vow renewal at WDW!;) I am no expert, but this is what I have found out from these boards. You can start planning whenever you want. I am and we plan on our vow renewal in June 2009. I do believe you can get started with Disney 1 year in advance and sign contracts 8 months out. Dh and I didn't have a wedding the first time around. We celebrated 10 years last year but couldn't do it then because of lots of circumstances. Next year we will do it on June 29th and that specific date has no special meaning. We picked it because of kids and school and what seems to work best for our guests. Also DH's bday is 3 days before and the big baby wants to be there again for his bday!:rotfl2: I really don't think you need to have it on a special date, just when you feel the time is right. I have found the following websites helpful:
www.disneyweddings.com
www.mouseweddings.com

Oh thanks so much for the quick responses. I think the first thing I will do is nail down a few dates. I have been on the disneyweddings web site but everything just seems so overwhelming. I don't know why? I planned my wedding all by myself. (Only because I am a fanatic about being perfect) and it never felt so overwhelming. So as soon as I do that it sounds like a year out I should start with Disney. Thanks again.:)

Blessedx3, congratulations on your upcoming vow renewal. How exciting it is that you're planning on celebrating your anniversary in WDW with a FTW VR.

The others have given you a good place to start -- the official FTW website. And you have already found another good place to start -- right here on the Dis website. Feel free to ask your questions. There are plenty of knowledgeable Dis'ers who will try to answer you as best they can, but for the definitive answer in anything having to do with a Disney wedding or vow renewal, you'll have to speak directly with the Fairy Tale Weddings' folks. But they don't bite, so I don't think you'll mind picking up the phone and contacting them. ;)

How far in advance do you have to do this stuff?

I celebrated my 20th anniversary with a custom VR that was planned basically within three months. You can read about the journey that I took as the planning of that VR unfolded if you click here. I am in the process of updating that thread, so be warned that many links in it are no doubt broken, but at least my words are there for you to read. I hope they'll help shed a little light on the process of planning a vow renewal. (Note: I had a Wedding Pavilion ceremony and a progressive dinner party inside the Great Movie Ride.)

Also all of you that have done VR do you do it on a "special anniversary"? It would only be 8 years for us but if we wait until 10 years we would have to pull 3 kids out of school.

Celebrate whenever you'd like. There are no rules for years, months, or even days. It's your vow renewal and you should plan it as you see fit.

My husband & I met on Halloween and we almost celebrated our 20th on Halloween. Part of me wishes we had, but it worked out that we celebrated on our actual wedding anniversary. For our upcoming anniversary in 2009, we just might celebrate it on Halloween. That would be my wish since it is my favorite day out of the entire year, but we haven't given much thought to an actual date just yet. We've got time on our side for now. As the end of this year approaches, however, we'll have to start doing some serious thinking.

So, as you can see, I'm trying to find a date that will suit my family's needs. It may fall on our actual anniversary, and it may not. As to your finding a date that suits your family's needs, it sounds like you're already working on that since you only want to pull one child out of school. If you ask me, that sounds like a great reason to celebrate next year. ;)

Have fun planning. And feel free to ask your questions here on the Dis.
