Vouchers at RFC Questions

Hi,

We have a group of 13 (3 different families) going to the RFC for an early dinner. I want to order vouchers, just to make things easier on my mom. I am thinking of ordering 3 adult vouchers, basically one per couple, and then 4 kids vouchers, for the 7 kids. We figure one voucher for the oldest boy, and then siblings sharing one each. Does this sound like it will work?

I know it may be too much food, but some people may have a hard time sharing, so I though this would be easiest.

I figure that a kids meal, drink and dessert from the kids menu would run us $12 (inlcuding tax/tip) per kid anyway, and for the adults, a mid range menu item and non alcoholic drink for each couple would be $40 (including tax/tip), for a total of $240. The vouchers will run us $144.

Is it hard for 2 kids to share a kids voucher? Will that work okay?
I'm not worried about the adults.

I was just planning on emailing the other family and explaining this is what we plan to do, along with a link to Debs website with the menu. My sister is frugal, so I think she'll understand.

Thanks

Julia

Just came back from WDW...
I think it depends on the ages of the kids and what they eat. Are you aware that you can order from the adult menu using the kid's voucher?

Just want to be sure. Can you use the Quick and Casual vouchers at RFC for lunch or dinner? I know that someone posted that you can use them both at the Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney, but I wanted to be sure on which voucher, the lunch one or the lunch/dinner one.

Thanks - Dianedisney

No, the RFC will only accept the VKL vouchers. But they will accept them for dinner not just lunch.

VKL stands for Vacation Lunch Vouchers at $30, right?

Only the RFC in Animal Kingdom will except these for both Lunch and Dinner. They except them because they close rather early (somewhere around 7pm even in the summer time) and their menu is the same for lunch/dinner. The RFC in Downtown Disney (DTD) will only except them before 4pm (this includes PS (Priority Sitting) requests. Both locations accept request but you have to call DTD's RFC personally - This can NOT be done via WDW dining line.

I wasn't positive about the whole thing with the kids vouchers.

But even if they had to share a kids meal, with an appetizer (like chicken strips) and a dessert, that would be enough. Our kids don't eat THAT much. And we would have a voucher for my oldest son (who is 12)

I did make a mistake with my math, though. The total with the vouchers would be $158, rather than $144. I forgot we would have to order drinks for the people without vouchers! But that may work okay, too, because some people may want alcoholic drinks, which would be extra anyway.

I was just still wondering what people ordered with kids vouchers, for kids alone (our kids won't want the stuffed lobster!!)

We were in WDW from 07/01/04 to 07/09/04.

We used 1 adult voucher and 1 child voucher for DH, me and 2 girls ages 5 and 3. My 3 years old is a picky eater.

We can use the child voucher to order anything from the adult menu, hence we used the 2 vouchers to order 2 lobsters, I had planned to use the appetizers for the girls meal, but just to make sure my 3 years old has something she is familiar with, I added a Macarioni and Cheese from the kid's menu. We also ordered cheese sticks as one appetizer using the voucher and the kids couldn't finish the cheese sticks nor the macarioni and cheese.

Therefore, technically DH and I did not "share" the meal, but it would be enough if we did share.
In my case, I purchased 2 adult vouchers and 2 child voucher before the trip, just in case we need more than one voucher. It turned out that we used only 1 adult + 1 child voucher each time.

Again, it depends on the ages of the kids and how much they eat, you may want to take a look at the menu.

Good luck

If I were going to order a meal for 2 children with one child's voucher I would get:

1) a soft drink (and let them share it if they will share...glasses are always promptly refilled)

2) an order of Caribe Chicken for their appetizer (this appetizer in itself is almost enough for their main meal! It comes with an absolutely yummy sweet pale yellow sauce which they say is Coconut Curry, but tastes neither of coconut nor curry...more like a mild, mild light brown sugar...but that's not quite right either/suffice to say it's something that everyone of my family and friends who have ever tasted it has liked it, including the young children!)

3) If they like steak I would order them steak...actually, I would order them steak and coconut shrimp, upgrade to the larger steak, let them have what they wanted of the steak and share the shrimp with the adults...asuming the children didn't care for shrimp!

There is also a combination barbeque plate with chicken and ribs which some kids might like. I know there are hamburgers but maybe for this meal I would encourage the kids to choose something more adventurous...orrrrrr...

...maybe I would order what I (the adult(s)) wanted from the child's voucher and simply buy a child's meal for two younger picky eaters to split...they have pizza etc.

4) For dessert I would combine 2 vouchers for the volcano...it is good, it is what the kids and you will love and remember...and it was far too much for the five adults at our table to eat after we had used 2 adult vouchers for our group (we also had ordered a chicken salad entree and a vegetarian entree but the entire chicken salad went home in a takeout box [I tried to tell future son-in-law that he probably wouldn't want it but he is a big guy and didn't think there would be enough food] as well as the lobster half. [I also had an extra free appetizer because we belong to the Safari Club...we have MORE than gotten our use out of that card since they constantly send us "anniversary" and "birthday" $5 vouchers in addition to the seating priorities, free appetizer (or 10% discount) every time we go.

Believe me, if you get the combination platters and one extra appetizer, one adult and one child voucher will more than fill up 2 adults, one 12 year old boy and 2 children! You should go to the menu selection part of allears and decide ahead of time what you will order from the vouchers so you can maximize your savings ahead of time...remember, you can use a kid's voucher like an adult's as long as you have a child that is 9 or under with you!

Maybe a dumb question, but could someone explain the "upgrading" of the steak to me? You lost me on that one.

Thanks.

I was planning on using one voucher for my ds and I to share. If I understand correctly we could use the child voucher and order the same food we would order with the adults voucher. There will be others with us using vouchers, my ds and I can share the food that would come with his voucher and I could save the adult voucher for another restaurant.

At Rainforest you can order a combination platter: steak/lobster, steak/shrimp (I don't know about steak/chicken lol)...and then you can ask to have your steak "upgraded" to a larger one. This is usually for an additional price, but it is a "free" option on the VKL voucher.

Yes, you could do this if your son is 9 years old or less.

He is only 8 so that is perfect. We are ordering the caribe chicken as the appetizer (for his meal), stuffed lobster for me (with fries instead of rice-which we both will share) and then we will share dessert. I will also request the fries on a seperate plate because my ds is allergic to seafood and they can't touch.

Sorry! I forgot to qualify that statement! You could do this AT THE AK RAINFOREST if your son is 9 years old or less. Other eating establishments do not always allow children to order off the adult menu...hey that might be a good thread...which restaurants allow a child to order off the adult menu on a child's voucher?...and for which items: appetizer, entree, dessert.

Let me also add that this lobster does not come with melted butter...not even if you ask. My daughter was nonplussed when after asking for some butter for her lobster they brought her out 4 pats of cold butter! lol...her facial reaction alone was worth the devastation of no butter available!

If you like steak be sure to order this with your lobster as a backup. lol

I can order steak with my lobster? I knew you meant the rainforest cafe AK!!! I'll have to remember about the butter, that's too funny!!!

...it's all good.

Stop!!!! You are making me hungry :p :p !!! I am glad I ordered 2 child vouchers.
