Voting in the US

Good Morning All:

Obviously by my banners below, you can tell who I support. However, this post is to encourage you to vote today, whichever candidate you support.

In this country, we have a privilege that many would kill to have, and many in our history have died to protect. It is not only a privilege, but a duty of every eligible citizen of this country to vote. Please, don't be swayed by long lines, predictions of who has already won, or the thought that your vote doesn't count. In 2000, the election was decided by just over 500 votes in one state. When JFK was elected, the margin nationwide was about 116,000, which equated to one vote in every precinct deciding the election.

So, please take the time to exercise your right, your privilege, and your duty today.

I have already voted today. Good reminder. The lines are growing.

I was one of the lucky ones. I went to vote at 11:00 and they broke us down into seperate lines according to your last name. My line had no wait and I was done in 5 minutes.:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

DH and I are voting this afternoon when he gets home from work. :)

Along the same line, be sure to explain to your children why you feel it is important to vote. Only once every 4 years do we have the opportunity to talk to our kids about how our right to vote for our leader came to be and is still protected today. I think it is more important to talk about voting and civic duty than who we actually voted for today. I'll get off the soap box now!:teeth:

I voted, and cursed those Florida voters all the time. Here in California we used the punch card system without problem for 34 years. Now, thanks to Florida, we have an optical ballot, 4 pages that are 8 1/2 by 17, and no numbers next to the candidates.
Used to take me 3 minutes to vote....took 10 this time.
Only one person in line in front of me, I voted at 8:45 this morning and was the 90th voter at my precinct.

Don't curse Florida voters - they had done all right themselves for many years = those punch card ballots are the perfect way to vote - simple, cheap, easy to check.

If you want to blame someone, blame Algore and his minions - they made it imprudent to use this great voting system anymore. The entire nation felt the repercussions of one man's obsession with power to the extent he could not admit a loss.

If you do have to blame voters, blame the few idiots who could not read instructions, or didn't care until they were told to care by some tin-horn DNC thug.
