Voting for American Idol

Do you vote based on the last performance or on how they've done in all performances?

I can't answer my own question. I only vote for Clay and Reuben and they're consistently good.

I only voted once so far, for Joshua. I would place a vote on who performed well that night, or maybe one who showed improvement over previous shows. I probably would have voted for Ruben last night or Joshua. I think Ruben is a natural and looks like he's comfortable on stage and will be Clay's toughest competition.
